    Number 11 cap shortage?

I've found some #10 caps online from Cabela's in Ottawa Canada. Doesn't help you I know but they are larger than CCI and will work.

Percussion cap misfires on new revolvers

Had the same problem but fixed it. Make sure the barrel wedge is in far enough and or, bring each nipple out a half turn. I couldn't find longer nipples. Unless Slix-Shot nipples are longer they're unlikely to help. Mine is a Pietta Dance Brothers. Hope you get it going.

Do you disassemble fully to clean every shooting session?

Welcome to Canada where everything cost 3x what it's actually worth. Good luck to you as well.

    Hello from Ontario

Welcome from Kanata, Ontario. If you're near Ottawa the club I go to has BP and most of the stuff needed to keep them smokin'

Do you disassemble fully to clean every shooting session?

I strip and clean my revolver and rifle after every session. Mostly using Pyrodex P for both. I'm not paying 55 bucks for Goex when Pyro is $26. If I do use Goex I still strip them down. BP will rust out a firearm, maybe not as fast as Pyrodex but it will. Been using mainly Pyrodex P and RS for...

    Lead

No kidding. I bought a scope and a new soft rifle case, both had a cancer warning, from California of course. Some folks must be paranoid about living.

    Lyman GPR change in supplier

The .54 GPR I had for years was a great rifle for what I paid. But I wouldn't pay that. $950 US converted to CDN + importing and tax? Ouch no way

Black powder cap and ball pistols

The other guys are right on. Like any gun if you know what you're doing and maintain it well they are very safe. And I might add, despite the loading procedure and cleaning are just plain fun.

Are CCI 4 wing musket caps a good cap?

The old 6 wing CCI caps were hot, never failed me. The 4 wing caps are a disgrace of a cap. Rarely would they set off 3F Goex. Got a no.11 nipple and works great with those caps, even CCI

Central Victorian (Australia) Black Powder shooter

Welcome from Ontario Canada. Been shooting BP for 20+years but still learning from the guys here.

Latest stupidity from the other side of the pond.

Round balls don't have to be made of lead, I've shot them with wheel weights and patch and they are very good but won't expand much at all. Minie balls of course need soft lead.

    .50 caliber Colt Dragoon?

Now that's a beast. Would 40gr of fffg be a decent load? Is the cylinder rubbing on the forcing cone? Looks a bit worn. Very nice revolver though.

    weirdo 1857 enfield

Yes, the Brits put a simple grove sight on after removing the original. They sure didn't want them to hit anything.

54 Cal Lyman GPR RB deer performance

Sorry late on this. Just moved to another Province. The Lee mold is 90473 it will cast a .553 Minie ball. Nice tight fit, I got maybe 3 off before the need to swab the bore, but accurate and very powerful. Good luck. Ian

54 Cal Lyman GPR RB deer performance

I shot .54 minie balls also which were painful but accurate. I shoot a .58 now but have a shoulder pad. Great gun you have, enjoy and good hunting. Ian

54 Cal Lyman GPR RB deer performance

I had the same rifle. Never hunted with it or put that powder load but it was brutal off the bench leaning into a shot. That butt plate is unforgiving. Great rifle though.

    Lefties

I'm a lefty as well. I've never fired a left handed rifle of any type. The only flintlock I've shot made me think I would prefer a left handed one though.

Hello from the Great North of Quebec

Been there too, and I'm a Canuck. Could've been the NRA sticker on the back window. Was 2 young guys who were shooters so we had a nice talk.

    rather be lucky than handsome!

I bought a jug of Triple7 once and ended up giving it away after a few shots. It left a hard crust in the breech that was very hard to get rid of, the ramrod would get stuck also. I'm sticking to Goex, expensive but reliable and easy to clean. I realize people have good results with it but this...

Hello from the Great North of Quebec

Welcome from Quebec, not quite as far north though. Does 60 miles N/W of Montreal count? I agree with Walkingeagle, we really have to look to the State's for supplies except for powder and caps. Usually a 2 week wait. Absolutely nothing here for revolvers.
