    Received Trade Rifle today!

Gander Mt in Greensboro, NC has flintlock starter kits for $45. They come with a flask, priming flask, powder measure, vent pick and short starter. A good deal for the beginner like myself. I also bought 2 yards of pillow ticking from Jo-Anne's fabric. How should I cut the fabric? Also if I use...

    Received Trade Rifle today!

Thanks for the offer Bull! I like in Winston-Salem, NC so finding the pillow ticking shouldn't be an issue. The front sight is way off. The rear sight wasn't even installed when I opened the box. I think Ill try to center it before I shoot it. I reload centerfire ammo so I understand the...

    Received Trade Rifle today!

Thanks bull3540. I noticed that the front sight is off to the right, Should I try and center it?

    Received Trade Rifle today!

It's a fifty. I'll be mostly target shooting but I will use it to hunt. I'm looking at going on a hog hunt in Texas on a primitive weapons only ranch. Does anybody have experience with the Lee Improved Minie Ball? I want more "umpfh" for pigs and was thinking a 360 grain minie ball would be perfect.

    Received Trade Rifle today!

I ordered eight 3/4 x 3/4 English flints from Track of the Wolf tonight. Thanks! It sparks well with the American cut flint, I imagine it will spark all the better with a good English flint. I need to polish the trigger but overall its a good looking piece.

    Received Trade Rifle today!

I received my Trade Rifle from Woodbury Outfitters today. I like the feel of the rifle and it sparks beautifully! To those who have a Lyman flintlock, what flint size do you use? I've read that 3/4 x 3/4 is ideal, but I've also seen people who swear by 5/8 x 3/4. Thanks y'all!

    Belgium Flintlock pistol??

I picked up this old girl for a song and was wondering when she was made. It has a "B" with a crown on the barrel. Any info would be appreciated!

    Pedersoli or Lyman

I went ahead and ordered a RMC touch hole liner. I figured that It couldn't hurt to go ahead and maximize reliability. I have a couple English flints from Track of the Wolf and 4lbs of Goex 3f so I should be good to go!

Thanks for the heads-up. That means with shipping I saved $7  . I can't wait to shoot my first flintlock!

    Pedersoli or Lyman

If only you would of posted that 20mins sooner, lol :shocked2: ! I ordered a Trade rifle for $408 with shipping. D&R with shipping would of been $385. A $23 dollar difference isn't going to kill me. I can't believe my Google-fu let me down. Thanks everybody for your advice!

Would the Davis Deerslayer also fit a Trade rifle?

    Pedersoli or Lyman

Also can anybody compare the triggers on the GPR with it's set trigger setup and the Trade Rifle's single trigger?

    Pedersoli or Lyman

.40cal conicals are next to impossible to find. That puts a major damper on that idea. Next Question, should I get .50 or .54? I can get a .54cal kit now, which is a plus, while I'll have to wait for who knows how long for a .50cal. Thanks y'all!
  15. I

    Pedersoli or Lyman

I want a rifle that could take down a deer if I wanted. Would a .40 caliber rifle shooting a Lee R.E.A.L, for example, be adequate? I don't imagine a .40cal PRB would do the job reliably or humanly.

    Pedersoli or Lyman

However! Dixie is out of stock of the Hawken kits and doesn't know when more will be in. Over in the classifieds is a .40cal Pedersoli for sale. I'm sorely tempted to buy it. But it seems that the Lymans/Investarms are thought of more highly than the Pedersoli. AHHH!I'm in torture here!

    Pedersoli or Lyman

I called Dixie and all of the Investarms flints use the same lock.

    Pedersoli or Lyman

Beautiful rifle! Is the lock the same as the Lyman rifles?

    Pedersoli or Lyman

DGW Hawken Kit How are these Dixie Gun Works Hawken Kits? I think I'm going to go the kit route due to the fact that the GPR is out of my price range otherwise. I want to go with a .50 cal instead of .54 so my lead will go father. I have a Lee production pot and cast balls for my Remington New...

    Pedersoli or Lyman

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm looking to get my first flintlock and am debating between a Lyman Trade or Great Plains rifle or a Pedersoli Kentucky rifle. I know that neither is a custom rifle with a Jim Chambers lock, but which maker produces the best production rifle...
