    Greetings from Richmond, VA

Richmond has her moments... once you take away the crime, the pollution, and the corrupt city officals. :) Thankfully, I actually live in an outlying county. Next time you're in town, look me up. Bruce

    RS versus Select

Pappa Bear was kind enough to PM me with the name of a guy up in Winchester who I can hook up with for some Goex... I make my way through there periodically so once I get set up with him I'll be sure to stock up with enough to keep me between trips. Have I mentioned how much I love this forum...

    RS versus Select

For $3 it didn't seem like that big of a deal so I went for it... I've had fine results with the RS too (excepting one load that wouldn't fire that I'm blaming on a plugged nipple). My guess was that it was more marketing than anything else. That said, I'll get a chance to try both tomorrow...

    "Hawkeye" TV Series

I never saw it (nor heard about it until this thread), but a quick Google search reveals it first aired in September of 1994 and was canceled in May of 1995. There you go... Bruce

Shooey, I've been to Orange on many ocassions for completely unrelated reasons. Absolutely beautiful country you got out there! Thanks for the welcome. Bruce

    RS versus Select

My local shop doesn't carry Goex, and I really don't feel like paying the hazardous shipping fee to get it shipped in--which means I'm relegated to using Pyrodex. The question of the day is what's the real difference between RS & Select? Or is it simply a marketing ploy? I've been using RS...

I think that's a pretty accurate statement... :) Thanks for the welcome.

    Greetings from Richmond, VA

Gates, were you there? Did I happen to get any pic's of you? Please do pass on the pictures to Joe and tell him if he has any use for full sized versions I'd be happy to forward them to him. I had a chance to talk with him for a few minutes as he was working... a very nice guy who can wield...

    What about Musket Caps?

Rebel, My shooting routine already includes half-cocking the hammer and clearing the spent cap after a shot before beginning another load. I'll look at getting a hot shot nipple and see what that does for me in addition to clearing the nipple with a pick before each load. I really appreciate...

    What about Musket Caps?

Tahq, the more I think about it, the more I think this is what happened. Thanks for the head's up.

    Hello the camp ...

Welcome to you from another Richmonder! Bruce

    What about Musket Caps?

Yep, that was the first thing my Dad taught me to do. Three caps through to make sure the barrel's clear and dry.

    What about Musket Caps?

Thanks, Jaegermesiter. I'll add your comments to Cayugad's and get consistent with picking the nipple channel before loading. Bruce

    What about Musket Caps?

I spoke to my Dad and he recommended drilling the nipples out a bit too. So I guess I'll do that. As I said before, I've been using the standard CCI No. 11's, but I'll see if my local shop has the Magnums. The caps were in fact firing and I'm sure they were seated well, as after I place it on...

    What about Musket Caps?

I haven't dry balled... yet. But I'll keep that in mind for when I do, Zonie. I'm sure it's inevitable. Thanks, Bruce

    What about Musket Caps?

    I'm using CCI caps.

    What about Musket Caps?

Thanks, Cayugad. I wish I had been thinking when it happened. The only thing on my mind was, "Is this going to go off or not?" As for powder, right now I'm using the Pyrodex RS. I'm not opposed to using something else if there's something better I should be looking at. I have not in the...

    What about Musket Caps?

I had my first misfire today. After three caps and a long minute wait to be sure the gun wasn't in a delay fire situation I gave up and very gingerly worked at pulling the ball and powder load. Not a fun experience by any stretch. I know it's inevitable that I'll have more in the future, but...

    Cutting a fiberglass ramrod ?

If you have to do it often, Harbor Freight has a tiny little chop saw that I used to use for cutting fiberglass and carbon kite spars back when I was building kites. It's reasonably cheap ($20) and works well, and will satisfy even the most discriminating shop troll. See it here. Of course...

    Range Box Target Storage Hack

Thanks, Chapman. I appreciate the perspective. I know it's been a regret of Dad's that none of his sons have taken to hunting and guns as he has. As I've grown older, and being the oldest among my brothers, I've sort of taken it on myself to find a way to give that thing to Dad as best I can...
