    New lube.

We hunted last weekend with a Avid Blackpowder Hunter. He told us he will leave his rifle loaded all deer season. Even after shooting it, swab it, reload it. Looking at the rifles he has, I saw not issues with any of them. His matched pair of Elephant guns are very impressive. I failed to...

    Good load for deer hunting

Thank You! Much appreciated! This was his second buck ever, the first was taken the morning before and of the same quality. Was a outstanding weekend. Sadly we had to come home early, otherwise I would have probably gotten mine that evening. We have been using (choke) Triple 7 in his rifle...

    Good load for deer hunting

Our son dropped two this past weekend with a 70 grain patch/ball load out of a Traditions Woodsman! Both shots went clean thru. One through the heart and broke the opposite shoulder. The 2nd went through both lungs. Neither went more than 50 yards. Picture here is Sunday's Buck!

Potts and Hunt Enfield Type identification

Will measure the barrel next chance I get. Note: I have not separated the stock from the barrel yet to see if there are any other marks on the barrel or stock. This barrel is rifled, the only two examples I have seen of the Sargeant's Carbine are documented as being smooth bore. It is a...

Potts and Hunt Enfield Type identification

Interesting! Will check with my wife and see if her ex-father in law who the rifle belonged to spent any time over in those areas. I know he was a WWII bomber pilot, but not sure where he served. Louis

Potts and Hunt Enfield Type identification

Thanks Fred, Will look at that part of the barrel closer for signs of solder or removal of the sight. There is a rough spot in the area where the sight should have been. Maybe it was polished after the sight was removed or lost. Louis

    Howdy!

Thank You Sir! I do plan to incorporate the history into the teaching. Every good resource is certainly appreciated. Thanks for the welcome. Louis

Potts and Hunt Enfield Type identification

Thank you for the responses so far. The puzzling thing is this rifle does not have a rear sight and shows no indication of having one. Will need to look closer under a magnifier, but I do not see where there could have been a screw hole to attached on. Where these used in both sides of the...

Potts and Hunt Enfield Type identification

Hello, and thank you for the approval to the group. We have a percussion rifle with a Potts and Hunt Lock that does not fit any available known models. Having research several groups, I have yet to find one that looks like this one. What I know: - Potts and Hunt - London - 58 Caliber (? Barrel...
