Kibler stocks OK for a lefty?

Nice rifle for some, I really dislike Hawkens, they don't fit me and are way too clunky and nose heavy. The CVA Mountain is my ideal, I already bought all the ambitious furniture and I'll be cloning the barrel from a rice 15/16 54cal blank. For a lock a left 5" L&R. Ordering a grade 5 maple half...

Kibler stocks OK for a lefty?

My solution is to not ever do business with Kibler, or any business like his, he decided to ignore us southpaw, and our business. I only purchase locks from L&R because of their awesome left lock selection and buy only from businesses that sell lefthand stocks and sideplates. I am too old and...

Things said that make me want to shoot alone

one of the few guys I ever saw shooting real muzzleloaders ( I don't count inlines as true muzzle loaders) showed up at the range while I was shooting several rocklocks including my Charleville. I thought I would go over and introduce myself at the next cease fire after I changed my targets out...

Things said that make me want to shoot alone

I used pyrodex once about 45 years ago when the goes plant blew up and the Holy black was not available. I was so impressed that I started making my own black. About the time I got my method perfected, goes was available again. That was the first and last time I ever used "substitutes". So when...

Building ME a NW Trade Gun ! :)

the second lock is the best option if it fits your mortise, otherwise, its a tumbler rework. and good luck with that

they are useful for at least 1 thing, they keep you from over priming the pan.

    L& R Manton Lock

sure, I can post a few ... an L&R Queen Anne w/waterproof pan for my trade gun build a CVA Mountain rifle converted to .32 cal with L&R RPL lock (water proof) a British light dragoon without water proof pan a CVA Tower pistol without water proof pan an old Ultra-hi .69 cal smooth bore...

    L& R Manton Lock

all my good locks have water proof pans, but I have a couple CVA guns from my youth that don't. I have never had any issues with either, the only difference I have noticed is speed of ignition and smoothness of the locks

Building ME a NW Trade Gun ! :)

I can see why, it would be much easier just buy a frizzen made of proper steel and grind it to fit your problem child, and it would be a lot more reliable. they don't sell casenit any more, there there is another product just like it available, I can grab the bottle and get its name if you want.

your problem child is beautiful! and re engineering a lock is not any fun, bad geometry is bad geometry. rehardening the frizzen is doable, but remaking the tumbler is tuff going. deepening the pan could be problematic if there is not enough metal. adding a fly is possible, but a mill would be...

    L& R Manton Lock

the Queen Anne is as relieved, not yet polished, I bought it for a NW Trade Gun I can finally build because I was finally able to acquire a left hand serpent side plate. the inside is smooth and the fitment is flawless, and smooth as glass, AFTER inletting is done, drilling the lock bolt holes...

    L& R Manton Lock

that has NOT been my experience. whether they are ones someone returned after "inspecting" them, or they were improperly stored and had to be "cleaned up" I don't know. but I had 2 I had so send back to L&R to be fixed that came from track of the wolf and muzzleloader's supply. I have never had...

    L& R Manton Lock

the sear position is where it is so that the position of the trigger when inletted is optimal. if it were any higher the trigger would set up above the plane of the ramrod channel and make the stock look strange, or the trigger bar would need to be VERY tall and affect the geometry of the...

    L& R Manton Lock

I just bought a L&R Manton a few weeks ago directly from L&R along with their new single set trigger. mine was beautifully fit and machined on the inside, I have it inlet and it resulted in a 3.5 lb unset trigger, and too light to measure when set. its one of the fastest locks I have ever seen...

Building ME a NW Trade Gun ! :)

I have a MAP/Oxygen torch with a real fine jewelers tip. I have been able to braise up brass with it, have a 1851 replica steel frame I converted to a suppository gun and it had the shoulder stock cut in the grip frame. I was worried that the AFT would scream constructive intent so rather than...

Building ME a NW Trade Gun ! :)

would braising the lugs be a good idea, they would melt off at a MUCH higher temp than solder?
  20. Khufu

Building ME a NW Trade Gun ! :)

question, what if I were to braise the lugs, then soldering the sight would not be an issue, in fact I could silver solder the lugs on, you would even be able to hot blue the barrel?
