Yep , gonna have to modify her a bit . I would tell anyone to stear clear of these locks . It has no fly and it catches on the half **** notch badly , the half **** notch is not far enough back so the flint either touches the frizzen of holds it open a bit , the pan is too shallow , The jaw is a bit too small esp. length wise and really isn't suffient to hold the flint secure enough , not fond of the frizzen spring , and , of course , the frizzen blows ... I'll fix it all and make her right but ....great ...
Looking forward to learning a trick or two about tuning a lock. Sorry for your trouble though.

Rob, what lock is that?

The sight in part was a real chore , to say the least. Probably the least fun sight in of my life . The lock CHA - CLACK ed more times than I can remember ....sometimes more than ten times before it would go off but I was determined to get it " roughly " sighted in , and I did . I got it shooting centered and slightly low to point of aim . I will try to post pics but the phone and the site are both giving me fits . I'm not down later adding " cookies " or any other d@mn thing . I've been using this forum for a while now and never needed it before ...I downloaded YouTube so I could see some stuff folks were talking about on FB and now my phone holds hardly any pictures at all and all the memory is about .... Well , very little , and very slow ....maybe even why this forum isn't working well now ....any who . What a day ...and rain kept starting then stopping , starting stopping all day while trying to work this d@mn gun .... Only good things I can say is it loading wonderful , first shot as easy as the last shot , when it finally did go off the ignition was as fast as can be . Gotta work on this lock ....gonna half sole the frizzen . I fixed the half **** catching. Oh yeah , timed myself ...it took me 8 minutes to clean it . Another thread the hey were talking about how long it took to clean their Muzzleloaders ...I was curious ....

An old Curly lock ...for his NW trade guns . I'll get it working but ...d@mn ...so.many things . I didn't see that coming . I've only had two of them and knew they were far from perfect but never had this much trouble with them .

...Hey ! It posted ! See if it loads now ...or the other way around , whatever ....let's see . This pic was after 6 or 7 shots low and either far left or far right ....and after I knocked the front sight off and had to have a coffee break to calm down before fixing it ! LOL ......and then this . I was like ... " Uhm .....ok ?! Thats awesome !" But I knew it was probably a fluke , which it was but was pretty cool at the moment . If I can get the other pic to load you'll see the group . This was the first shot of the grouping , the highest shot of the group .

Ok ...might be working now .... Ok , the marker is pointing to my point of aim , just at bottom of the black . The group , of course , is nothing yo brag about but after all the hassle the gun is sighted in , if a bit rough , shooting centered and a bit low . I can brown the barrel now whenever I want to. Later I can file the sight and bring the poi t of impact up a touch and try some different stuff to tighten up the group but good enough for the first time ... 25 yards ... The width of group is 4.5 " , height 5.5 so nothing spectacular but got it centered ....

... The problem child ! LOL .... :)
your problem child is beautiful! and re engineering a lock is not any fun, bad geometry is bad geometry. rehardening the frizzen is doable, but remaking the tumbler is tuff going. deepening the pan could be problematic if there is not enough metal. adding a fly is possible, but a mill would be helpful. Good Luck, keep us up to date, this is interesting stuff.

Will be just as interesting to see what or how you now go about “fixing” it 👍
The biggest thing is the frizzen . I'll have to half sole it with high carbon steel . I made the pan deeper and ground the half **** on the tumbler for the sear to pass over it . After I get work done on a couple customers guns I'll come back and fix the frizzen up .

So many questions! What kind of steel do you use for the half sole? Do you harden the piece then soft solder it in place trying to keep the temperature in the tempering zone for the hard insert? Too bade the good case hardening compound from Brownells (Kasenit) isn’t available, you could just case harden the existing frizzen.

Still in the " which way to go " stage . I want to half sole the frizzen as it traditional and works the best . But ...I have this darn Cherry Red , can't remember why I bought it , what project it was about , but I'm so darn curious if it works as I've never used the stuff . Casenite worked ok but it always seemed like a temporary fix to me esp. as much as I shoot . I can't mess up the frizzen as it sucks but if the compound works I can see me just being fine with the whole project and back to work ...I'd really like it half soled . Here is my " soleing " material ....old chisel , piece of file and some spring steel ....we'll see . Gotta get this barrel bedded today ....
