    How many....

I've never done it either but recently I watched a guy do it because he believed this procedure was less harmful to the patch holding the RB!

    How many....

ram an overpowder patch down atop your charge and then seat the patched RB atop it?

    Whether shooting.....

You don't possibly hunt in an area that has many days of 90+ RH and rainy conditions! I do! And I'm QUITE FAMILIAR with my rifle.

CLICK!.....a friggin misfire or Flash In The Pan!! POI.....POINT OF IMPACT!!

    Whether shooting.....

flintlock or caplock I am very leery about what I want the first trigger pull to deliver! I DO NOT want to hear a loud CLICK! To prevent this from happening I'm not going to run a patch down the bore that is even remotely loaded with too much liquid to foul the ignition area. I wipe the bore...

    Sight movement

Take a punch and 'peen' the sight to prevent movement....front or back sight!

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

I don't think I can improve much on this by reducing my load of 38FFF with .44 RB! From 41 yards. IMG_4884 by Sharps Man, on Flickr

    Possible gunpowder related tragedy

Not accusing anyone but ignorance runs amok within the electorate!!

    Maximum loads for 1858 Remington

38 grains FFF with RB is enough for me in my 1858!

    I've got seven....

flintlock and a couple caplock rifles I'd like to sell. These are really nice rifles...no junk. Three or four made by Tom....??? can't remember his name but he's from over in Georgia. He's been retired now several years and for the life of me can't recall his name. Just getting tired and my...

    For sixty years.....

I've always read about water being used as the best thing to clean up BP residue. I do use water (slightly warm) to clean my BP rifles along with Ballistol and it works really well. On the other hand I don't use water to clean my 1858 New Model Army .44 revolver however; rather I just use a...

    Accuracy....

Bout the same! It's all about watching the front sight.....and trigger control. Makes no difference whether or not it's this revolver or a match grade M1911 .45 pistol....if the front sight can't be seen and the trigger control isn't right....accuracy won't be gotten!

Offhand accuracy with flintlock pistols ?

Train every day for at least a couple hours and by time of 2040....things will come around!

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

I would have rather died trying to get in another cylinder than just sitting upon my horse with my butt in the wind waiting for someone to just ride up and pot shooting me!!

    My First Black Powder Firearm!

According to folks smarter than me the brass frame ain't the way to go. But you got a shooter so do some reading and let 'er rip! Lots of stuff on the net about this. Look up Blackie Thomas Percussion Revolver!

    Accuracy....

with the 1858 New Model Army .44 Revolver has surprised me ever since I bought it two years ago. This is with the standard sights....not the target model. My load is 38 grains Goex FFF and I use the Hornady swaged round balls. My bench is 41 yards from this plate and I have a bench set up under...

    Too much trouble.....

Since we don't have anyone trying to take our scalps loading fast shouldn't be a requirement. Rather our kits these days are fairly easy to carry on ones person. Doesn't take very long to drop the powder into a cylinder along with an OPW, couple or three pills of soy wax and then the bullet atop...
