    Lil Brass Frame Bench Rifle

The rifle among this rifle to give a proportional view is a Rigby Match rifle. I shot with 2 - NZ shooters 2 weeks ago at the Creedmoor 150. John S. & Laurie K. They shot well and everyone had a fantastic week.

    Just about fed up…

Try snapping a cap after wiping. I do a damp patch, then dry, then snap a cap, then load. Bang - no issues.

    Lil Brass Frame Bench Rifle

No name, 36cal (1:48 twist), Seems to be about 3/4 scale 1” Octagon barrel, 27” long, false muzzle, bullet starter. Rifles weighs 7# Possibly someone has seen one similar as it is cast brass (looking inside after removal of left plate). ? I’m guessing made in the North East in the Stares.

    Wood x2 - Stunning

Picked up another piece with Stunning Wood. This 16b was made by Westley Richards. SN dates to 1850’s.

    Notch in hammer cup

My limited experience (1) with percussion doubles that DO NOT have the notch/split in the hammer nose - this rifle would splatter my forearm everytime!

    Notch in hammer cup

All good answers above.. I always wondered who did it 1st? I do believe the shooter can tell/feel the difference with & without.

    Original notched breech plugs

I’d suspect Joe and John Manton only made hooked breech arms. My 1825 John Manton has an unusual lock plate screw - screws into the breech plug itself, does not go thru. Lock has to be removed to remove barrel.

    Percussion Double-barrel hammer shotgun #1

Looks to be a hardware/export sxs.. made in Birmingham (UK) by proof marks and made by the thousands to any/every country that they could. Its had a hard life.. Looks like something in Cracker Barrel. Caution for sure.

Random photos of famous ML percussion/flint guns, or rather guns owned by either famous people or during famous events

Being a 2 year old post - no idea why I posted a photo of Lynton McKenzie holding an Alexander Henry S/T rifle. Sorry, probably just because of the title of the post. Not surprised no one commented..

If you had only two choices.

    Would depend on bore diameter.

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

Make the commitment like I did many years ago and sell ALL of your modern stuff: Winchesters, Remingtons, Ithica, Browning, Savage, etc.. (hey can easily be replaced) - then you’ll have enough to buy a nice original.

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

They were made to use.. We are caretakers for the next generation to enjoy.. We shall not abuse them in any way. This percussion is one of my favorites, have shot it a lot over 3 decades and I even got lucky one nice afternoon a few years ago. Wasn’t the 1st and hopefully not the last, but...

    Sizes of Caps and Nipples

If you want #54 made by Kynoch - go for it. #11 is indicated as its the Eley numbering system we still utilize today.

    Sizes of Caps and Nipples

What I’ve found while trying to measure with pin gauges over the years- tolerances from today’s manufacturers aren’t great. Tolerances cost $. Here is a Vintage Eley display board.

    Availability of Percussion Caps

Walmart receives 1 shipment/store annually. Here in the USA - the time is now.. My local store had at least 20 tins for sale. Just under $6/100ct. Otherwise you’re stuck with the crooks reselling them.
