    Lyman GPR stock repair

TOW has a hawken halfstock for $84. Inlet for 15/16 barrel and 3/8 ramrod. I think this is a pretty good deal. Just have to inlet lock and triggers(the hard part).

    Lyman GPR stock repair

I am kind of leaning toward getting a blank hawken half stock and trying my hand. Plain maple half stocks are only $70.

    Lyman GPR stock repair

I don't see any mechanical/fit issues. I was thinking maybe the previous owner may have over tightened the lock screw, but not sure(don't think so.)

    Lyman GPR stock repair

I was thinking I might thin some Titebond and force it into the cracks. It is not broken into 2 pieces, but the cracks do run pretty close to the trigger inlet.

    Lyman GPR stock repair

I was thinking titebond or gorilla glue for the cracks, and bedding epoxy for adding a chunk of walnut behind the lock.

    Lyman GPR stock repair

I don't have any wood scraps, but there is a Macbeaths hardwoods very close where I could get some walnut hobby sheets.

Same here, thimbles are soldered on. No screws anywhere on the underrib.

    Lyman GPR underrib.

Maybe I should try to repair it, there is a chunk missing between the lock and the barrel. Do you think maybe something could be added to this area that would look decent? The crack runs on both sides from the front of the lock, diagonal to almost the trigger inlet.

    Lyman GPR underrib.

I believe mine is an older model, so no screws. It came with a really nice stock that is cracked beyond repair. I was considering the TOW full stock replacement, but with no way to remove the rib, it is a no go. I think I may just go with a half stock and inlet the lock and triggers myself. I...

    Lyman GPR underrib.

Gentlemen, I was looking at the underrib on the rile I bought to see if it could be removed. I do not see any screws attaching it to the barrel. Is this soldered to the barrel? It is stamped made in Italy. I believe it is an older model serial no. Ending in 81. Thanks for any help.

    Lyman GPR stock replacement.

Excellent info, I will see if can contact them. I would really like to get is an unfinished stock, like what lyman sends in their kits and finish it myself. Thanks again for the great responses.

    Lyman GPR stock replacement.

Yeah, I read on the TOW replacement that they recommend using two staples for securing the barrel forward on the stock. I would consider this if I didn't have to respace the current barrel lugs. (which apparently I'd have to.) I will keep my eye out for another GPR stock. Thanks for the info.

Thanks, half stock hawken looks really nice. This may be the ticket.

    Lyman GPR stock replacement.

I am new to this forum, having just purchased my first muzzle loading rifle. I bought a Lyman GPR rifle with a cracked stock. I don't think the stock is repairable, as a chunk is missing by the lock. I was wondering if anyone has had to replace their stock on a GPR, and if so who did you go...
