I am new to this forum, having just purchased my first muzzle loading rifle. I bought a Lyman GPR rifle with a cracked stock. I don't think the stock is repairable, as a chunk is missing by the lock.
I was wondering if anyone has had to replace their stock on a GPR, and if so who did you go with. I see that TOW has a full stock for Lyman/Investarms rifles.
Lyman wants like $375.00 for a stock, and I think this is a little ridicules.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind the full stock TOTW conversion is not a drop in item. I once considered their fancy maple upgrade conversion stock. Its made for the lyman lock and trigger, but...
We don't know your skill level for soldering or dovetailing an extra under lug. They will have to be respaced. You have to rework a new nose cap onto a full stock as well. And add a third wedge?
Pecatonica's full stock hawken is not a drop in for a GPR either. I asked last year. They make a drop in upgrade for TC, but not Lyman. :shake:
You could carve your own stock from a blank, or get a blank with the barrel channel cut and rr drilled for you.
Really great idea is to shop around for another GPR that was not cleaned properly. Pitted rusted bbl etc. Trash most of it and re finish the stock. Use it on your new gun. Save the lock for parts. $75 bucks on a good day.

I had a stock replaced a little over a year ago for a Lyman GPR. If you ask Lyman, they have a repair shop, it is Dixon Muzzleloading in Kempton, PA (you can find it in a Google search). They charged me about $100 less for the stock than what Lyman would have. They will fit the stock but you will have to send you rifle to them and there is a fee to do it. You will have to put on your own finish when you get it. Dixon's did a really nice job on the stock I got. Hope this helps. Yeah I about choked when Lyman told me what they wanted for their stock. Yeah, I read on the TOW replacement that they recommend using two staples for securing the barrel forward on the stock. I would consider this if I didn't have to respace the current barrel lugs. (which apparently I'd have to.) I will keep my eye out for another GPR stock. Thanks for the info.

Excellent info, I will see if can contact them. I would really like to get is an unfinished stock, like what lyman sends in their kits and finish it myself. Thanks again for the great responses.

Have not seen a ton of Lyman but evil-bay has stocks all the time. watch for one and snag it. I could use a new one for my TC hawkins that chipped at the butt plate. I have seen em from $65.00 all the way to near/over $300.00.
