Finally decided on a Crockett Rifle

I've also had a Crockett for a number of years. Never once had a problem with it. Found mine to be quite accurate once I figured out what load it liked.

    New Crockett Rifle

I own a crockett and have not filed my front sight. I am not a big fan of bead front sights. I prefer a simple post and notch, YMMV however. I recommend shooting it quite a bit before making any modifications. You might find that adjusting your load might be a better solution. Mine seems to...

    This may sound stupid but

The latest MassWildlife magazine has a long article describing the hazards of lead and its effects on wildlife, children, nursing mothers, the elderly, turkeys foraging in hunting areas and even predators scrounging gut-piles. The article set off my BS meter as would any other marketing scam. I...

    R.E.A.L. Bullets

I have also had iffy results with REAL bullets. 2" groups at 50 yd.s was also about the best I seemed to be able to get with my .54 T/C Renegade. Being new to MLs I thought the problem was me or the rifle (bought second-hand). However my experience last weekend shooting PRBs from the same gun...

Firing A Cap Before Going Afield

Thanks everyone for the tips. Looks like I will be snapping caps, running a couple of patches, removing the nipple and cleaning out the flash channel with a pipe cleaner, cleaning the hole in the nipple, then leaving it loaded until I get a volunteer for the freezer..

Firing A Cap Before Going Afield

Percussion hunters, What are your opinions about firing a cap on an empty chamber prior to going afield for the day, to ensure ignition. I assume this would necessitated a through cleaning at day's end. Otherwise, I would think that after blowing out the charge a quick swab, lube and wipedown...

    Blaze Orange Requirements

During deer season here in MA I wear an orange outfit that makes me look like a nightmare "Pilsbury doughboy". I also wash with UV killer. I'm sure it works. I went eyeball-to-eyeball with at six-pointer at 15 yards before he decided I was harmless.. apparently he was right since I missed! .. at...

    Picking a caliber .50 vs .54

I wondered the same question a couple of years back. Several folks recommended a .50 since I was just getting started. The suggestion was made that .50 was better since there were a lot more commercial products specific to the .50 and that .54 projectiles were more difficult to find. Long story...

    Greetings From Ah New England-ah!

Yup, that's true..I was looking at property in North Central MA, and the realtor told my how his young daughter woke him up one morning, all excited, thanking him for the new pony.. She was a little disappointed when he explained that it was a cow moose that had wandered into the back yard...

    More on the Crockett 32

My only complaint with mine was the rear sight which I sliced my hand on a couple of occasions. I rounded off the sharp edges and touched up the bright spots with a bluing pen. All this talk about crocketts is getting me itchy for some range time. -hbennett

    .32 crocket rifle

I also own one. I concur with all of the previous positive postings. The crockett is appropriate for many of the tasks that a big-bore isn't..such as stalking small game, or introducing a young shooter to BP shooting..can't beat it for the price. :front:

    .32 cal squirrel gun

I also own a crockett. It was the least expensive .32 that I could find. It's a fun little plinker, and a great way to get into BP shooting as it doesn't cost much to feed. I have taken mine afield several times for sniping at tree-rats with patched round balls. I haven't hit a squirrel yet...

    Greetings From Ah New England-ah!

Hello from the land of pah-kin cahs and chow-da. I've been reading the forums for quite some time and from them have learned a lot. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge and experiences. I am still fairly new to BP shooting. I had been wanting to give it a go for a long time (years...
