Has anybody shot the R.E.A.L. Bullets.
I was looking to try conical's this year, and they caught my eye for some reason or other.

Any conical advise would be appreciated.

I shoot a .50 cal cva, 1:48 twist. It shoots patch and ball well but looking for something different.

I just got a REAL mold, shot just a few last range trip, I ran out of powder so I had to quit (had already shot several PRB's) but they seem to have some potential. I'm going again soon to shoot some of them.

Hi Okie.

I shot the REAL bullets in my 54 and hated them. Unless I drove the darn things at top velocity, they would start to tumble in flight. You can see it on the paper at 100 yds. when the bullets leave 'key holes'. By the time I had the things stabilizing, my .54 was developing enough energy to kill on both ends.

I only found one that would give me good accuracy with hunting level loads- the Buffalo Bullet Co's so-called "Ball-et" It was a short conical that stabilized well in the 1:48 twist without gobbling huge gulps of powder.

They still make them in 50 cal and you should give them a go if you get the chance.

I could not get any type of group with the Lee R.E.A.L. bullets out of my Lyman .54 GPR. I gave the mold to a friend of mine, who has a .54 CVA Hawkens. He was shooting 2 inch groups at 50 yards, off hand. We ran out of sun light and had to stop shooting. I think the Lee R.E.A.L. bullets will do just fine in your CVA. Good luck.

I've shot them both out of my TC Hawkens in 50 & 54 cal. Pretty good for plinking and off hand shooting. My rifles seem to like the Hornaday great plains in 54 cal. Have not shot the 50 enough yet, but so far TC maxie hunters seem to be best. TC bore buttons under the bullet will help cut your groups.

The 250 grain R. E. A. L.s worked pretty good in my 48" twist CVA. I was loading 75 grains of FFg. I haven't tried the heavier ones.

I have also had iffy results with REAL bullets. 2" groups at 50 yd.s was also about the best I seemed to be able to get with my .54 T/C Renegade. Being new to MLs I thought the problem was me or the rifle
(bought second-hand). However my experience last weekend shooting PRBs from the same gun at 70 yds, produced tight groups with holes in the target touching each other or very nearly so. I no longer believe the rifle to be the issue.

I have given up on REALs.

FWIW I believe that the literature that came with the mold specified a rather light load for that bullet.

Thank you all for your advice and help. I guess that I will stick with the ball and patch another year at least. After reading all of the replies, I have discovered that my comfort level with the p&b is greater than I had realized.

Is it wrong to experience anxiety over this kind of thing? :hmm:

Thanks again,
Okie

As you could read some times they work sometimes they dont, and sometimes people just dont work with them or use the wrong one for the twist they have. Ive shot them all still have every size they make, even shoot the 200 gr 45 out of my Colt Navy and it shoots better than with balls so go figure?? :rotf: till you try both I wouldnt say they dont work Ive had the 300 54cal work and not the 380 but like a lot of people I tend to try everything in a 1X66 twist at least once when trying stuff out. Fred :hatsoff: Oh ya I do like them, I just shoot PRBs most the time, just use the Lee's for fast reloads when trying to get a new sight on target then switch to PRBs.

I have a 250 grain mould for the 50 cal and a 300 grain mould for the 54 cal. They seem to shoot ok, but not super well. I mostly use them for plinking and shooting at my steel plate. for me they are cheap to shoot and fun to play with. However for serious shooting I find there are better bullets.
