Lots of talk and compliments on the Crockett 32 recently, and I've added my share.

I just took care of one nagging "problem" and thought I would pass it along. Not worth a photo, and no real gunsmithing skills involved.

The barrel wedge is situated right at the balance point on my Crockett- in other words, right where my hand rides when I'm carrying it. The problem is, the wedge is overly long and sharp cornered at the end. It gets real bothersome carrying it for half an hour, much less all day.

The solution is simple. Grind or file the tip of the wedge to shorten it and round those sharp corners. I used an 8" mill bastard file for the rough shaping, followed by a polish with my sharpening stone. A grinder would have been quicker, but it would get hot too.

As a final step I degreased and reblued the filed area with touchup blue. Looks great, and it's sure a lot more comfortable.

My next mod may be a change in sights, an improvement needed for my aging eyes. Small complaints for a great little rifle, but worth your consideration.

My only complaint with mine was the rear sight which I sliced my hand on a couple of occasions. I rounded off the sharp edges and touched up the bright spots with a bluing pen.

All this talk about crocketts is getting me itchy for some range time.
