    help identifying kit gun please

Thank you for the help guys, it is a two piece stock, with the brass divider. The wood looks like a strait grained maple. I just talked to him, and he was in the middle of stripping it down, and is going to walnut stain the wood. I'm looking forward to helping him get started with bp. We've...

    help identifying kit gun please

A friend of mine just purchased a kit gun at our local gun shop. It is a kentucky style percussion, .50 cal, single trigger. The barrel is in the white, and appears not to have been fired. The only markings on the barrel are: Ardesa Spain, .50 cal, black powder only, and a 6 digit serial...

Can I shoot a light shot load?

I realise that the rifling will give me a terrible pattern, but I was wondering if it'd be safe to shoot a light load of shot out of my .50 Mountain rifle. I was thinking maybe 50grains of 3f goex, a wonderwad, 3/8 oz of lead 7 1/2 shot, and another wonderwad fer really close range cottontail...

    ballistics and trajectory charts?

Anyone know where I can find some ballistics, and trajectory charts for BP, 777, and pyrodex with .45, and .50 prb's, and conicals? I only have access to a 100 yars range, and would like to have some idea of what happens between 100 and 150 yards.

    CVA Mountain Rifle opinion needed

Deer Creek Products (765)525-6181 should have the parts you need. I recently bought a trigger guard for my mountain rifle from them for about 10 bucks.

Leaving for deer in the morning!

Well got back yesterday. It rained every day but one, so I only used the muzzleloader once (no shot). We got 4 altogether for six of us, an 8 point, 5 point, doe (I shot the doe), and button buck, and had to work hard for every one. Super high winds, and pouring down rain made for a tough...

Leaving for deer in the morning!

Well, I'm off to Parry Sound , ON for deer season in the morning. I just talked to my father, and he says he's been seeing lots of bucks. I was going to use my .45 Kentucky flinter, but my mother wants to hang up the .30-30, and give the flinter a whirl, so I'll use the .50 percussion that I...

    Moose load done fine!

I don't have a digital camera, or scanner, but after I get back from Parry Sound, I'll post some from a friends PC. Hopefully I'll have some whitetail pics to go with my calf.

    Moose load done fine!

Yep, she flattened out to the bottom of the hollow point, little over .63 cal at the widest point, and it wieghs 342 grains still. Purty good performance I thought. Thanks for the congrats boys. Can't wait to try for deer with the flinter.

    Moose load done fine!

I got back last night. I had to pass on a bull at about 180 yards, but I dropped a calf at 70 the day before yesterday! .50 CVA Mountain rifle, 90 grains 2f 777, 365 grain conical, and a #11 CCI cap. The bullet penetrated both lungs, and ended up lying against the offside ribs. What a blast!

I shoot at a friend's house in River Canard (he's got a berm at the end of his 200 yard field, or If it's raining, and I need to make some noise, General Gun and Supply has a 25 yard indoor range. I only shoot 3f Goex in my flintlock. I just picked up the 777 for my new caplock. Going to...

    moose load?

Yep, It's a Mountain rifle. I e-mailed CVA (now BPI) and received a message that mine has a 1 in 48, if you do a msn search, the CVA sidelock page lists Muntain rifles as having a 1 in 48 as well. The catalogue I've got for my CVA .45 Kentucky flinter that my dad built in 1976 shows the...

    moose load?

Mine is a 1 in 48, I got a 3 shot 100 yard group of just under 3 inches the other day with this load. At 50 yards I'm was throwing 2 inch groups. I don't think I'd take a shot at a bull over 50 yards anyway though.

    moose load?

I'm new to the forum, and caplocks in particular. I've been shooting a flinter for a couple of years, but I recently picked up a CVA .50 mountain rifle. I'm leaving to go moose hunting on the 15'th, and I was going to use my .308 like I do every year, but I've been bitten by the ML bug hard...
