Soon to be a flint shooter (maybe)

I am too going to closely monitor this thread. I went with exactly your description. TVM Poorboy in .54 with swamped barrels. I opted out of the set trigger. Melanie (wonderful to talk to) and I had a long email chain and a couple phone calls in regards to the rifle. She said stock single...

Looking for Members near Aiken, SC

Hey! I am soon moving to the Charleston area. I am coming down from the Charlotte area. I am new to Muzzleloaders in general and have my first Flinter being made by TVM. I should have it in the Spring time. Maybe we could meet up at some point. I would love to have someone to A.) Shoot...

    New to me rifle

Great find! I too much prefer a "plain" (if we can even call a flinter that!) rifle. I love the look of what your average sort of individual would have had in the 18th century! Now that being said, flamed stocks are GORGEOUS. I am with you though, give me a good performer, first!

    To .50 or to .54 !?

Thank you everyone!! I’m really thinking I’ll move to .54 for this particular rifle. I’d love to add a .36 sometime as well! This may be the first flinter, but I highly doubt it’ll be the last. I’m actually in the process of “un-modernizing” my firearm collection. I’m super drawn to history...

    To .50 or to .54 !?

Agreed! A well placed shot is the king in hunting. Really any aspect of the firearms sports! The rifle in question that I am having made is a TVM Poorboy. The reason I asked this question is because I have read a lot of love for the .54 on here! I just want to make sure I’m not missing...

    To .50 or to .54 !?

Howdy! This will be a combo paper puncher and food getter. Deer compromising most of the targets but there is plenty of hog options my way as well. .54 might lend itself better for pork blasting.

    To .50 or to .54 !?

Howdy all! After a couple weeks or lurking I have reached this question. I have placed an order for my first flinter, and during the wait period, I am allowed one change in order for free. So I had originally gone with 42” swamped .50. But I see many really preferring .54 for versatility. Would...

Heck yes! I can’t wait! I’m going to attend a meet not too far from me in October. I’m a big fan of gun photography and will for sure document that meet and my rifle when it’s in my paws. Make no mistake!!

That’s great! He says 2F for .50! I’ve read most use 3F, I figure I’ll buy one of each, worst thing is I prime with the 3 and load with the 2, just want to find the proper recipe!!
