I have to admit...this feels like cheating...

I agree with others. It is absolutely historically correct. If you think they did not take meat when it was presented you are kidding yourself. Cheating? That depends on your own set of rules not others. We have a feeder (that was found on our property) not far from our barn. Our unwritten...

Small game- .32 cal vs smoothbore

It has been said but in my opinion it depends on how badly you want meat. If meat is the goal, go with a smoothbore. if sport is the goal and the meat is a bonus the riffle can’t be be beat. We are planning a 70 hike taking only wool blankets, tarp and something to take game with. I am a pretty...

    First Flintlock Squirrel

I use a .32 Love it. Hunting squirrel is so much fun and relaxing to me. Though, I tend to only take head shots. Mostly because that was the first shot I took with the .32 and we could not even find parts to his head. It just vaporized it. Did the same thing with the next shot, which was on a...

Just a show of hands, how many make their own ammution?

After reading about the “weight difference “ in store bought balls I started doing it. (Weighing mine) honestly, I don’t see a huge difference. Most are right there and I can’t see myself doing better by casting myself. but weighing them is kind of like building/fletching my arrows. Kind of...

Just a show of hands, how many make their own ammution?

I buy mine. I do weigh them and throw out anything thing more than 1 grain off. I might lose 8 out of a 100. Acceptable to me.

    Of Those Who Hunt

I live in Colorado and small game hunt here. The season is weird though as a lot of the small game does not overlap archery season (which in my opinion needs a primitive season itself with all the training wheel shooters now taking blackpowder length shots) anyway I digress... I no long big...

    LET'S START WITH YOUR UNDIES...

That’s what I was getting at with oil cloth, great for an outer layer under my wool.

    SCREWED?

Hit it with a penetrating lube and let it sit. then try again. You may have to do this multiple times.

    LET'S START WITH YOUR UNDIES...

Wool. Wool. Wool. Keep in mind that like all things wool comes in different qualities and you get what you pay for. Also keep in mind that you want loftier wool inside close to your body and tighter weaves as the outer layer. Also no one has mentioned oilcloth is that not PC?

    Firing a Cap Before Loading

Oh. Thanks for the barrel down idea. Had not thought of that.

    Firing a Cap Before Loading

I have not found the need for alcohol myself. clean the barrel With boiling water (no nipple on) the barrel is then hot enough that after a drying swab all the moisture Evaporates then lube the barrel. The last thing I do is heat the nipple on the stove or over a flame (to remove any moisture)...

    Blood trail follow up

I unfortunately had this experience with 2 deer yesterday. unfortunately, we never did recover the doe. 4 hours of looking in ever increasing circles. The buck was found by tracking his prints in the soft ground. he had it 60 yards. I back tracked on my hands and knees. Still no blood. The...
