    LEE

I have cast them and shot them from my CVA hawken 1:48. They were a bear to load, had to hammer them in with a mallet to get them started and then after a point they went down pretty well. I am guessing that is just a funtion of the upper rings engaging the rifling as it goes down. The...

question about antlered vs antlerless tags

Just curious, how are you not overrun with does now. Are there natural predators which help keep the population under control.

question about antlered vs antlerless tags

Thanks for the replies, I Dont mean to come across like a game hog, just trying to understand the restrictions. I agree that the current number of tags is based on past success rates (assuming of course everyone is honest in reporting their kills, which of course they aren't). It seems to me...

question about antlered vs antlerless tags

Background - I recently harvested my first deer (a spike) with a muzzleloader at 40 yds. (CVA hawkin i buiilt from a kit, 0.490 round ball with 0.10 patch, 80g FFg goex). I ask this question here in the hunting forum because I only hunt blackpowder during all legal seasons in virginia. My...

    GPR kit question

On my kit I seem to remember pulling them out as you described. You could always drive them through a bit more with a small nail if necessary and then pull them through. I think if you try to finish steet in place you will mess up the stock.

do you stop a walking deer before you shoot

Background: i have been hunting for two years now and only use blackpowder in all legal seasons. I am using a lyman GPR flintlock and had my first attempt at shooting a whitetail on saturday. He came in around 30-40 yards and when he entered one of my shooting lanes i bleated at him to stop...

    R.E.A.L. bullets for hunting

Does anyone have any experience with these while hunting, good penetration, knowckdown power etc? I was testing some out yesterday preparing for the season and was getting good groups at 50 yards over 90g of FF goex, however i practically had to use a hammer to get them started down the bore...

    Problems with browning

Had the same problem a couple of moinths ago after several baking soda washes. Eventually got around to using a high grade silicone spray from the hardware store to seal it. Several coats every couple of days did the trick. The silicone actually penetrates the metal surface and displaces the...

    Lyman GPR nearly finished but...

The line i am having trouble with is different i think. It is actually on all 8 sides of the barrel about 1/4 of an inch forward of the touch hole. rearward of this line the browning didnt take - this is where the breech plug is inside the barrel. perhaps it had exces oil as you mentioned but...

    Lyman GPR nearly finished but...

I have nearly finished a lyman GPR kit but am having a little trouble. When i browned the barrel everything came out fine except for a section around the breach plug. the barrel is browned nicely but the last inch around the touch hole is not uniform. There is actually a uniform line all the...

    New Lyman GPR Question

I believe the consensus is that midsouth shooters supply is the cheapest. I bought my right hand flint GPR kit for $305 delivered.

    Hard to load

I too have the CVA hawkin built from a kit and the first feww inches were a bear with a 0.18 patch and 0.49 round ball. Switching to a 0.10 patch greatly eased the problem with little loss in accuracy.

    Cheapest GPR

    shooting high and left

I am trying to work up a squirrel load for my CVA hawken 0.50, 1:48 twist. I am currently shooting 50 gr of ffG Goex under a PRB (0.490 diameter with 0.10 patch). Just about every shot is high and to the left at 30 yds. Even after adjusting the sights (this model came with an adjustable rear...
