    do you recognize this cannon?

GAR salute cannon is an interesting possibility. Lyle guns are generally 2-1/2” bore. This cannon is far too small for a line throwing gun. Lynn

    do you recognize this cannon?

Perhaps “Salute” cannon would be a better description considering the July 4 date. Lynn

    do you recognize this cannon?

Very Cool !! Now to decide on how far to take the restoration. Do you want it to look it’s age or as new. Personally I like antiques, especially iron, to look aged. Enjoy your project.

Antique (Replica) Cannon Info? Polish Coat of Arms - 23"

Nice decorator. That as cast bore you see in the muzzle view was never meant to be fired. As noted, the trunnions look like a pin thru the barrel.

    do you recognize this cannon?

I'd say you found a good size toy cannon. The side pieces are cast iron as were the broken wheels. You could probably find a pair of wheels that would match the style of the carriage. With the press fit or possibly cast on trunnion band, the barrel could be steel rather than cast iron...

Small cannons from my step father. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Interesting collection. Some appear to be scale models……Some of the breechloaders. I am more familiar with the muzzle loaders and see a Carronade and a Dahlgren. I also see a carbide cannon. There are several generic representations of cannons in your collection. Some fall into the toy...

billiard cannon and lead pool balls

Gents, I would caution that recoil will be quite severe with a lead ball in such light weight tubes. The tube may survive but your carriage may not. Safe shooting!

    Help in identifying

My best guess is a signal gun though with a large breech like that it could have been made for heavier work. It wasn't cheap when made. It seems fully lathe bored and exterior turned except the trunnion band. The trunnions and shoulders are machined as well. With such high quality workmanship...

    I.D. old signal cannon

I have heard this type of cannon referred to as a “stack gun”. Supposedly placed on the floor of a factory smoke stack and fired to loosen the creosote build up on the walls of the chimney. If it had a handle like a beer mug it would be referred to as thunder mug. Hope this helps.

What size bore at the breech?

From the book “The Big Guns” by Olmstead, Stark and Tucker, the Pattern 1840 iron siege howitzer had a chamber diameter of 4.62”. 12 pounder bore size. The pattern 1861 had no cylindrical chamber but instead an elliptical shape transition from 8” diameter at the bottom of the bore.

    Exploding projectiles

Check the book “Artillery and Ammunition of the Civil War” for a good explanation of fused projectiles in use at the time. I have read that the Confederates had a hard time producing reliable fuses.

    Pop can mortar help.

As to powder charge under a cement filled can i would suggest you start very light. Perhaps 100 grains BP and work your way up. You will be surprised how little powder it takes to throw your can quite a distance and you sure don't want to send it out if sight. Good luck 😉

    Canon identification

More info. Photos overall and details. What is bore diameter. Any markings on the breech ring, muzzle face or trunion faces. The more you can provide, the better it can be identified. It does look late 18th century and possibly english from your sketch but European is your best guess at this point.
