    when i push the ball down barrel I have a damp patch on the jag that wipes the bore as you load. A old timer told me that is the way that was done back in the day.

    I'm going to try and git this thing sighted in where do I start it's a Kentucky style .36cal, 9"barrel green mountain,L&R flintlock Do I start with 10grs. or should i go with 30grs. like with a rifle?

    I like 30 or 32 cal. 3/4 in. 1 in 72 twist 42 in. LH flint. mine is a 30cal 3/4in. 1 in 72 twist I can load from 15grs of FFFg to 50 grs. and it shoots the same group just a little higher.

    The wife and I went to try our hand a skeet shooting with our trade guns 28Ga. 60grs.ffg,same measure of #8shot. Wife 7 out of 25, Me 8 out of 25 not great but those brids are fast 55MPH. next time we are going to try trap shooting. give a try it's a blast. :grin: Possum-Oh

    Why is 32 cal different

    My 32cal is 1 in 72 my 36cal is 1 in 66 my 40cal is 1 in 66 they all shoot tight groups with any load from 20 to 60grs. for the 32 and 36 the 40cal. 20 to 80 grs.

    I have a flintlock 40cal 40in.GM bbl. I`m thinking of hunting deer with it using 40cal bullet400+grs. with paper patch 70grs. of 3f goex. do you think it`s saft to shoot? It`s like a 40-70 rife or is the bbl to small of dia.sould I go to 7/8 bbl.

    A freind of mine grabbed the wrong shooting bag one time and used 35grs.of powder and the same of shot I a .62 cal smoothbore and hit 4 out of 5 clay brids.

    jug choke

    I have a 54 cal smoothbore colerain bbl. 44in.and I don`t know if it jug choked or not it takes a .526 .010 patch and I do need a short stater to load it. How do I find out if it`s jugged or not.

    It`s a 36cal flintlock 42in barrel 1-in-66 round bottom rifling I have shot everything from .350 to .360 balls, 20grs of FFFg to 70grs fffg. I removed the rear site I can hit POA but not good enough for squirrel hunting.

    I have a 36cal flintlock that shoots 3ins. high at 25yds. the front sight is 3/4 ins. high the back sight is 1/4 high. should I bend the barrel like you would on a smoothbore?

    I would check out Tip Curtis Frontier Shop at Cross Plains,TN He has a good selection of Smoothbores. It took 3week to get mine from him a Dubbs 28ga. in the white $995

    tuning a lock

    Thank`s for the help. The tumbler was rounded off and it would not stay cocked out of the gun a little work with a stone and it works great.

    I have a small L&R lock that will not stay on full cock and I don`t know what to look at Tumbler or sear?
