    Bronze mortar question

Thanks! How hard would that mortar be to line?

    Bronze mortar question

Thanks! I'll probably order one just for grins. Fort Vause doesn't want an arm & a leg for the mortar and it looks too neat to pass on.

    Bronze mortar question

I'm looking at buying a rough casting of a bronze grenade mortar and have a question for the forum. Does I need to look at adding a steel liner to the mortar? I searched the web and forum and can't find a definitive answer. Thanks! Carl

    loyalist arms?

I have a Loyalist Arms light infantry fusil and it was okay. The quality is nowhere near a custom gun like my Tulle or the Pederosoli Bess I have but it's just for play. The accuracy is quite poor. It took a lot of tweaking just to get a RB on the paper at 25 yards. If you're reenacting and...

    Interesting Cannon video

R Lee Ermey has a new show called Locked and Loaded. The first episode is on the history Channel website and covers early artiller from colonial to the 1841. What's interesting is the video of the grape shot on Ermey's favorite target: watermelon. I was amazed at how deadly triple shot was...

    Modifying a barrel

Thanks for the input. I tracked down an engineer locally and was told that it could hurt because the ring was cast on the barrel. My other cannon is a field gun so I hadn't encountered a ring before. Now I just have to start hunting wood and brass to mount it.

    Modifying a barrel

I recently acquired a DGW 1/2 scale carronade with a ring from the cascable to the button. I'm considering cutting it off but I'm not sure what that will do to the integrity of the barrel. Do any of you have experience modifying a barrel or should I just leave the ring in place? Thanks!

Looking for info on two events

I'm trying to find out about an annual colonial faire held at the Arkansas National Post and info about the Southwest regional rendezvous that is being held this year in Nicona, Tx. I had not heard of either until this year so I'm trying to figure out where to put my limited leave to it's best...

    Colonial Williamsburg Cannon Project

I hadn't seen any posts on this and when I saw the article in their magazine I found it interesting that they were casting their own cannon. The pics from the mortar casting were fascinating to see it done that way. Have any of you cast a cannon or mortar? http://blogs.history.org/cannon

bent the barrel and need help

Thanks. I hadn't considered filing the muzzle and am leery of moving the front sight since it's a bayonet lug as well. From my rifle experience, I'm hesitant to file the muzzle but will look at that as a way to take the muzzle back closer to fitting in the stock. When I got it, I thought it...

bent the barrel and need help

I have a light infantry fusil in .62 that shot consistently 4 inches low and 3 to the right. I bent the barrel and got it actually hitting the target but now it takes two people to put it back in the stock (one to hold the barrel, the other to drive the pins in). Any ideas on how to keep me on...

    Bledsoe's Fair and Fort Washita

Just in case the gas prices kept you at home, here's my pics from Bledsoe's fair in Tennessee and a local rendezvous here in Oklahoma. Fort Washita, OK http://community.webshots.com/album/563410530DVAsqs?vhost=community Bledsoe's Fair, Castilian Springs, TN...

Flinter on a grad student budget?

You might consider a Pedersoli in either kit or complete. That's the way I went while I was in college. Mine's been reliable over the 10 year of hunting since.

    best all around squirrel rifle

I've been using a .36 for several years and to me, it's the best. It doesn't demolish the squirrel if you miss the head like a .40 does. I've observed the smaller calibers like a .32 tend to foul more and here in Oklahoma's humidity, that can be a problem. Just my opinion though...

Best wood for a gun carriage

Thank you for all the help. I've got a line on some white oak so I'll probably use that. Here in Oklahoma I doubt I'll need to worry about the salt water (I hope). Hopefully I'll be able to post pics of my new toy sometime soon if work quits interfering.

    Where is your favorite source?

For me it's definitely Dixie Gun Works because that's where I got my Bess. The store is a great place to visit and the people there are always a great help.

Best wood for a gun carriage

That gives me some good choices. Thanks!

Best wood for a gun carriage

I'm thinking oak was probably the preferred wood but were there any others that were used?
