    Traditions muzzleloaders

Thanks guys, doesn't sound like much has changed.

    Traditions muzzleloaders

Thanks for the reply. That's been my opinion as well, but have not looked at them for quite a few years and was hoping that they had upped their Q.C. since the choice for side locks get smaller and smaller each year.

    Traditions muzzleloaders

What is the general consensus on Tradition's quality? I see their prices have really gone up. Maybe the quality went up with it?

    A&H rifle barrel

If it was just me hunting elk I would, but he is convinced he needs a bigger bullet. It is indeed a .50 cal. with a 1 in 66 twist.

    A&H rifle barrel

Need some help. Gave my grandson an Austin&Halleck mt. rifle a few years ago. When I had it I only shot rounnball in the slow twist barrel that I orders it with. Now he wants to shoot it with conicals for elk. Do any of you know where to find one of the Austin&Halleck 1 in 28 barrels? Thanks...

    Found some walnut barn timbers!

It would be cool if you could work that nail into the build somehow. A barrel pin or something? Larry

    CVA Hawken

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, didn't they get their barrels from Douglas, back in the 70's and early 80's :hmm: Larry

    New knife handle

Try burning them, then sand them down. I really like that look. Larry

    Austin Halleck questions

I just shot mine yesterday. 3-4 in. gruops at 100 yds. all day. When I'm really on I can sometimes shrink that to 1.5 inches. If you decide to buy new check with Tom Lodge @ www.sunrisearchery.com on Hunt America he goes by Rattus 58. I bought from him and will not do any different next time I...

How much long for BP deer for you?

KyFlintlock, I'll have to wait until the middle of Nov. then I'll be toting my A&H Mt. Rifle .50cal. shooting a .495 R/B with .018 patch over 100 grains of 777 FFFg. Larry

    how far is too far

How far is too far? When I can't keep ALL shots inside a 6 inch circle. That's my limit. What does that come out to... well with a good rest all my guns will do it at 100 yds. Freehand most at 50 yds. and one at 75. Sitting all at 75 yds. and one at a 100. Bottom line once your gun is sighted...

Hawken Rifle HIstory A Good Read!

I think the point being is that he didn't bring gunsmithing skills to the armory, but rather learned those skills while employed at the armory. Larry

    Clean barrel suggestions?

You guys could try about 30-40 grain load with just a patch over the top, no bullet. This dirties the barrel, then do whatever it is you do on a second shot and see if that brings the first shot where you want it. Larry

    Good Bullets for 1:32 twist

Not sure, but if you are thinking that Lymans are American made, you will be disapointed. Now they make a fine rifle for sure, but not here in the states. As for large conicals try out www.p.r.bullets.com , no matter what conical you end up with try using the bore buttons, wonder wads between...

    Lead in grass / water

We killed a nice buck last year just off the local shooting range and he ate just fine. It did have a VERY slight metalic taste to but not so that you would notice and none of us have had any ill effects fro... cough, whezz, choke, uhgh, ooohhh, ooooo :blah: nah just fooling with you. :peace: Larry

T/C hawken or Lyman GPR (54 cal)

First of all everyone is different. Now all the guys I shoot with like the felt recoil from the T.C.'s better than the Lyman. We have a Lyman GPR and the Trade rifle in camp, function is fine, accuracy is good but they kick US like mules with the heavier elk loads that we shoot through them. On...

    Back action rifles

I personally would love to see anything that would spark more of an interest in sidelocks in general! Your gun definatly qualifies in that regard, two thumbs-up :front: :front: Larry

    Traditional ML Season Support Base.

    T. G. I would be very interested in starting a more traditional M/L hunt in Or. We would have to get the State game dept. to pay attention to us and that would be the hardest step. If they offered an "any species" hunt at the same time in a decent unit I'd hunt it in a hot second. Make it late...
