    slow twist with conicals

    I shoot 370 gr maxi balls made from wheelweight in my 50 cal underhammer. 1 in 66 twist. It will link them at 50 yds. I do use wonder wads. It likes 90 grains of Pyrodex P for the maxi's. So yes a slow twist will shoot conicals.

    Pioneer pistol from Traditions!

    I shoot a .45 Pioneer. It likes 25g P or goex fff with .015 pillow ticking patch and .440 Lee mold balls and a felt wad. The heavy trigger pull is caused by the little u shaped spring. Judiciuos adjusting that spring by bending it together slighly resulted in a real nice trigger pull on mine...

    Absolute newbie, wondering which rifle to start out with?

    Bobznew. I would recommend an underhammer. Better locktime results in better offhand shooting. Super reliable and less moving parts to contend with. Period authentic, from about 1830. I have shot most and wouldnt trade my underhammer for 5 sidehammers.
