    .490 Tapered or Cylindrical Bullets

don't discount a short bullet untill you try it! i have a cva kentucky (.45 cal) that shoots a 255 gr flat pointed round nose from a lee pistol mould way better than anyone would have predicted!!

    NJ Ban?

ultimately, we all need to stand together in this! i've been following the issue of disarmament for over 40 years, and let me promise you, these people WILL NOT stop until every form of tool that can remotely be considered a weapon is banned!!! aas an example, did you know that in N.Y. city, an...

    50 cal pistol

you never know what it will do untill you try it. i have a cva kentucky (.45 cal) that shoots a 255 grain handgun bullet very well! all that with a 1 in 66 twist!

sry. 'bout the typo! MY BAD!!!

    i guess she was right?

i can't speak for mckutsy, but i've dealt with a dry ball by pull the nipple and dribble as much powder into the flash channel as possible, and firing it. always worked for me! (no, i don't have to do that very often!)

    Howdah pistol range report

it's worth noting that you can get some of the same benefits of the plastic wad cup by making your own wad cups out of brown wrapping paper. while i've never tried it myself, it would serve the same purpose of holding the shot pattern together for just a little bit past the muzzle, while staying...

    stainless breechplug

i am in the slow process of building an underhammer express rifle, and the barrels ihave are stainless (they were a good deal, so i bought two!) my question...where can i get stainless breech plugs, or would i be o.k. with use carbon steel plugs? i intend to do one of the 'duracote' type...

    NJ Ban?

having dealt with some liberals on a first hand basis, i think it would be foolish to just assume that the muddled, technologically and grammitically incorrect language of this bill is the result of ignorance (even though that 'could' be the case). the left often relies on confused terms and...

    other builders

unfortunately, there are shysters in every group! too bad it gives the rest of us the task of returning the sence of honor to the entire field! i will second your comment about the grain runoffs, though. most woods won't survive for long if they're not built with respect to the nature of the wood!!!

    other builders

WOW! i didn't expect this kind of response! in answer to one question, yes, i do both laminated and self bows at current time i have built 5 or 6 longbows, and i have 4 or 5 in the works. (yes, as a matter of fact, i do have a bad tendency of working on too many things at once!!!!) i also have...

just a wild question.---how many other muzzleloader builders here also build bows?

    Hornady 385 grain M\L Bullets

as i see it, the flinters in the forum probably have a legitimate beef about conicals, but when you get into percussion, which is all i've ever shot, all bets are off. when reading period literature, you will see references to r.b. and conicals, and i believe you will even see some of the same...

    Euroarms Enfield Musket

pull your barrel and make sure you don't have a warped stock. odd angled pressure from the stock can cause wandering impact points as the barrel heats up from each consecutive shot.

Success with a .41 Mag mould in .40 GM

this is something that everyone with eb twist rifles should keep in mind! if you want some extra oomph in your rifle, many will shoot pistol bullets quite well. i have an old cva 45 cal kentucky, built from a kit, that shoots as well with a lee 45 cal 255 gr. rf nose pistol bullet as it does...

    Deer creek?

i've been to their store, and since its a small, mom and pop store, i could see them havinga hard time keeping up sometimes. their phone is pretty busy sometimes, other times not. also, since it's just the two of them (as far as i know), any time off would be left uncovered!

    Rifling Twist & Conical ?

i've no reason to try the real in my 1-in-66 since i'm working well with the 255 lee handgun bullet. i can also justify the purchase of the 300 grainer because i'm in the prossess of building a 1 in 24 express rifle! (along with 350 gr, 400 gr, 450 gr.!!) also, while the real is fine in slow...

    Rifling Twist & Conical ?

that's a somewhat open ended question. the short answer is it depends on your rifle, and the conical! i have a cva kentucky in .45 cal. that shoots 255 gr. lee round nosed, flat point handgun bullets (cast in pure lead, of course!) almost as well as it shoots plain round balls! i have considered...

need to know if I am crazy as I belive i am

you'd be suprised what you can do with one of those rifles without adding much of anything! i turned my 35 dollar yard sale kentucky kit into a halfstock, ditched that cheesie brass spacer, made a bocote spacer, and joined the two stock pieces together permanently. the end result doesn't look...

    underhammer build along

don't let my jelousy stop you from your posts, though. i love following your projects, besides, i think you bear some of the responability for getting me started on wanting to build an underhammer!!!!!

    underhammer build along

john, i'm the one trying to keep up! i have to admit to being just a little green (with envy!) when i see your machine shop. i have access to macines at my job, but i think the management would take a dim view of my using them for an "outside job". my little 6" atlas/craftsman lathe is o.k., but...
