I was looking at the Pedersoli Frontier Flint Carbine in .54 cal and noticed it has a 1:34 twist . Just wondered if it shoots round ball ok for hunting , so shots would be under 100 yards , more likely around 50 yards .

Just wondered if anyone has shot this gun with that twist ? Also wonder if a bullet is a better choice in that gun ?

:hmm: Good question .

Haven't heard anything bad about it so far

When Googling "Pedersoli + "Flint Carbine"" I only get a few foreign 'hits' and they give no information about the rifling.

I've got the full length flinter model in 50 and my hunting pard has the short capper in 50. Till you said something about twist and I double-checked the Pedersoli site, I never realized they were different (1:47 for the long one vs 1:34 for the short).

You could have fooled me! Both shoot equally well with RBs and neither of us have tried conicals.

I'm assuming the same would be true with the 54 cal versions, but you know what they say about assuming!

I have a custom Hawken .54 cal 1-34 twist DeHaas barrel. The rifling is very shallow. Never tried patch RB in it. I shoot a Lyman Plains bullet that I cast from pure lead that weighs 460 grs. I size the bullets to .001 under bore dia with a push thru die. The load that has been very consistent is 90 grs of Goex 3 FG with a .550 dia 1/8" wool felt wad over powder. The rifle shoots a large ragged hole at 100 yds all day long with no wiping and I can hit an 18" gong at 200 yds every shot. A friend and I have used the same formula for several other rifles with similiar twists and bullets with the same rsults. My personal opinion---1-34 twist is perfect for conicals not for round balls.
