I adhere to an old English adage I once read, "little powder, much shot, shoot far." Works for me when it comes to getting as much of the load on target out of the .62 fusil de chasse.

Or; "Little powder, much lead, shoots far, kills dead.."
With a muzzleloader, we are guided more by the shoulder, than by the modern charts.

I can do that... :)

Excellent! Now I have a place where I can quickly check to see that I can set my powder measure to 80 grains if I want to use it to measure out (about) 1-1/8 ounce of shot. Nice handy "modern" chart sure beats having to figure out the conversion in my head every time, or having to figure out where I left that shot dipper

Used it to measure out shot and roll up about 20 of those paper shot cups. Now I just need to find something to serve as a pattern board.

I use fixed brass charges (60,70,75,80,90,100 grain) that I got from TOTW for my shotgun. That way I con't have to fumble in the field changing my powder measure from shot to powder charges.

For pattern paper I bought a roll (48") of banquet table paper and I cut out the poper sized squares . For a template I bought a proper patterning target.

As many ranges frown on shotguns on their backstops I tape my patterning target onto a large piece of cardboard that I prop up at the appropriate distance.

have fun

It's funny cause just before this thread came out I had ordered a CVA shot measure from Midwayusa.com. It looks like a powder measure on steroids. :rotf: It starts out 1 oz, then goes to 1 1/8, 1 1 1/4.

For measuring shot charges, why not just get a shot-flask?
You see lots of originals in good order on e-bay etc, and don't cost a fortune.
I have a few, and don't use anything else.
They generally come with the nozzle throwing 1oz and 1 1/4oz, Or 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 oz.

You can buy new ones too, but ironicly, these generally cost more than an antique one!!
If you get an old one, just treat the leather with deer tallow or some such, to preserve it.

PS they're often sold on e-bay as 'Powder flasks" !!
