I had a lot of fun today firing my pistol. I made a video range report
for you guys. A few things I got to do right off. The left locks tumbler needs a
little filing below the half cock notch so it will clear it better.
It hangs up if I don't pull the trigger fast.
I had a little problem with the flint but I fixed that already.
Just a little naping is all. Theres a few other things I need to do- It needs
a little more room in the main spring area on the right lock and on the left
lock the cock needs to swing a little further into the pan.
I'm gonna change the trigger on the left so its behind the other.

The dog in the video looks like a hunter but its not. Half springer spaniel and half masiff. :shake:
It's dumb as a box of rocks. I can't hunt rabbit with it cause he just chases them away.
He's my daughters dog and I've been stuck with him for a year know. It's been a ball and chain.
He's going home soon and I'll be back to hunting on my own again. My method of hunting
rabbit is why I made this pistol. I find the thickest cover close to a water source and
belly crawl in quietly. They know your there but they think your a deer or something cause
they don't move. This pistol will work great. I hand gun hunt them with loaded down 38's
usually and miss more than I get. This new gun is just gonna SMOKEM!
Take a look.
Double barrel video

No no no, The dog was not downrange. If you look again you'll see me waiting and then the video clip changes cause I stop the video and yelled at the dog to get out of the way.

looks like fun. What kind of breech did you use? It looks like you have two barrels that are not soldered together.

Many Klatch

I used two straight tang plugs and made hook plugs. They hook into the double tang. I dovetailed the barrels and made some underlugs then pinned them. I would have made a mess out of these trying to soder a rib in.
I tried to find 12 ga. round to round barrels but I could'nt find any and bought these instead. I did find some after all though. I'll buy them for my next project, I guess.

It's not 12 gauge, but it is .65 calibre. Antique percussion howdah pistol made by A. Schmalz in Saxony circa 1840s. These double barrelled pistols are quite something else to own White Rabbit! I purposely did not mention it previously because this neat old antique gets babied more than actually shot.

i have a 12 g sxs long gun, would love a pistol to match, future project i guess, thanks for sharing

#5 or #6 ought to take rabbits and there are a lot of great recipes available. But you'll need some buck for a dog that size and the recipes are not all that easy to find. He's obviously no hunter so I guess, unless your daughter will take him back, you'll just have to cook him or make a pet of him. :haha: Oh, darned nice gun.

OldSmoker; From what I've read, Those howda pistols were made for shooting attacking tigers from elephant back. You probably don't get that to much up in Alberta, A? :) Fine looking pistol, for sure.

OnePaw; When I make another, I'll buy the round to round barrels and do the sodering. Theres a few u tube videos on the subject. Heres a link to the barrels.

BillnPatti; I'm loading #4s That will part there hares :rotf: I've gone rabbiting a few times with no luck. I'll be going more often when deer seasons over. I've fixed all the problems with the double and it's very reliable. I've worked up to full loads, 75 grs and I trust that the wood frame will hold up.

BillinOregon; no I ain't shot any of those pesky wabbit cause it's DUCK SEASON!

I tellya, I almost forgot about this thread. I popped to handguns to look around and saw my thread up top. Four posters! I't was like four trick-or-treaters coming after I thought it was all over :) .
Thank you all for the kind post.
