Have wanted a 1711/41 Skiloper Rifle from the first time I laid eyes on one . Doubt that I will ever find an original as they are quite rare. Well build one ! Last wk. I hit the Jackpot I found and purchased a Norwegian Dogloc the lock that was used on the 1711/41. The Dog Lock is in great working order and will be just right for my build. Now for a Colerain barrel wood blank , and start fabricating the hardware . A picture of my prize Doglock!

What does 1711/41 denote? Must be a model no. .....can't be a year because it's a caplock. A little history would be in order seeing many of us are ignorant as to what you're trying to simulate. A pic of this gun would explain a lot....Fred

flehto , the M1711/41/51 started as a flintlock and was converted to percussion in 1841. Then in 1851 it was converted to Pillar Breech and upgraded to the long range sights that are shown on this 1711/41/51. I do not have a picture of a 41. I am not sure if any 41's escaped the upgrade in 51 . There are very few of these rifles known to exist .So the rifle I will try to replicate will not have the long range sights that are pictured on this 51, but except for the sights will look the same (I hope) as the rifle below. The sights will be more simple like a two leaf Jaeger style rear and a brass blade front. I hope all that made sense My Best DT.

In which country did it originate and was it mainly military?....Fred

Dusty With that large cutout for the snail breech are you going to find one to fit? Patented breeches seem to be getting on the slim side of availability....common ones that is.

flehto, I am no expert on the early arms of europe. So dont take what I say as fact. From what information I can find about these rifles , is that they were made in Suhl around the 1690's as a Standard rifle, and accepted by Norway about 1711 , for military use. As far as I know all of the upgrades/ modifications were made in Norway.,,,DT

Swamp Rat , Looks like the breech plug bolster and tang will all be custom made. I am lucky that I have an original M1803 /41/51 that has a breech plug that can be used as a pattern. The two models look to be the same breech. Not sure at this point if I will install the Pillar System or not. Actualy the breech plug and bolster are the parts that I look forward to making the most. Although I think the Dragon sideplate will be a Hoot .,,,DT

Look forward seeing your work in that area. take some pictures what you start with and how it turns out. Please.

Sure is a sharp looking rifle! Congrats on finding that lock too. I'm sure it's going to be a beautiful rifle when you're done!

Unless I missed something, what caliber is it going to be?

You'll have to keep us up to date with pics of course!

Thanks for sharing my friend.

Respectfully, Cowboy

Cant make my mind up Cowboy. If original , the cal. would have been .72 and pillar breech . This will be a replica and a rifle I hope to use as a hunting rifle, Jaeger. I really like the DogLock as a stalking feature with loaded caplock rifle. I am leaning very hard towards a 28"or 30" Swamped for sure barrel in .58 cal. with a ROT that will handle RB.and Minnie bullet. With the type of open country I hunt that should be a great all around caliber. ,,,DT
