I've been looking for a reproduction of a 1728/1746 French Infantry Musket for hunting and reenact purposes. I've seen a number of complains about the imports from India, and most of the people I've talked to who have purchased one ended up sinking considerable post-purchase time and/or money into the weapon.

What advice do you have if I have heart set on the model?

Unfortunately, your choices are buy one from one of the better importers who check and inspect their pieces like Loyalist Arms or order the parts from The Rifle Shoppe and wait up to 3 or more years to get the parts and pray they're right! If I wanted one to play with, I'd call Loyalist and talk to them about it. They're good folks and know their stuff. Sorry there's not better news.

Wes went without grits today!

Got my own 1728/46 de la Marine from Loyalist some years ago. It's fine for what it is, but, note I do not go anywhere I need it without a backup...

"Ya'll hang on whilst I whips this out!"

The one I got from Flintlock Repair (the Kathans) is not without a couple of minor cosmetic flaws but it shoots great and is put together well.

I don't think so -- I'd have owned it. And so would alot of people here.

Besides, if they did some know-it-all with a little micrometer, a small magnifying glass, a big boatload of internet rhetoric and a huge ego would come and tell you how imperfect it was.
