17th Century Ottoman Miquelet "Shishane"

Here is a very early iteration of the Ottoman Turkish "Shishane" Miquelet. This form went nearly unchanged from the mid 17th century till the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Rarely seen, this has a pierced triggerguard, rather than the button trigger without a guard, and a vent pick, a leftover from the matchlock era. Other than the Miquelet lock and trigger, this would be identical to an Ottoman Matchlock.

The crescent+dot inlay is a very classic pre-18th century design.

Many Matchlocks were converted to Miquelet, however this example is not one, the tell-tale sign being a wood fill-in where the matchlock trigger was.

Even the Shishane's that can be determined to be pre-1750-ish are difficult to locate. And the matchlocks are very rare. Yes, interesting the general style didn't change for some 200 years. Thanks for posting this earlier example.
