Anybody here ever heard the term 'rip-off Britain'?

Commonly used here to express disgust at the way we are over-charged for just about anything that comes from outside the UK...like percussion caps. There is is one main dealer for BP supplies here in UK - Henry Krank up in South Yorkshire, almost 180 miles from me. Add to that that anything that goes snap, crackle, pop or boom - caps, primers, powder of any kind, must be collected - or sent by HAZMAT courier, and you can see that you need to be pretty much dedicated to your sport to carry on.

However, this popped up on my screen a few minutes ago, so I thought I'd share it with you guys who take great delight in getting a shipment of ten thousand #11 caps for a few dollars....enjoy.

Nope. As THE Pedersoli and Uberti main importer, they've got it all pretty much tied up. Everything I'll ever seen, gun-wise, has been either suppled by them to the dealer concerned, or is second-hand. Of course there are a VERY large number of militaria and genuine antique dealerships, some of international repute, but they are not interested in supplying new-made replications or shooting supplies of any kind.

I have no idea who imports percussion caps here, either. Id hazard a guess that it is whoever imports ammunition on a large scale, but even that seems to be climbing in price like a rocket taking off - last year we saw the first £100/C .303 British ammunition - now it's £120.

I tell ya, without reloading for my unmentionables, I'd be utterly screwed for shooting them.

I knew Henry Kranks owner when he had a garage before he bought the Krank side from Longstaffs (before he got murdered) he had Pheasnt Valley & Longstaffs as well the Krank side mostly govt surpluss junk . Zoran use to take me to Brum proof house and browning ect.But he was allways keen with prices . I left all that poop behind voted with my feet and picked NZ. don't know cost of caps mostly shoot flint or Matchlocks . What We tend to do is look at the' telephone numbers' of stuff today but when a joiner might y get 12 pounds a week & now last I worked it was 14 pound an hour So the" sticker shock" factor is keenly felt. But its as not about out the same or cheaper . When I got 5 pounds a week but could by a ML gun for 5 and a single & 8 for a double & org powder flasks ran 3 pounds ( unlesss leather covered then it was a 30 shillings job) same as shot flask (Coldnt polish them up ) .No mention of the 26 cap ? still got some .What was dear when I was 18 is more( or would be if I shelled out) way less than my 80 years on .And actually cheaper to buy original guns like me & Felt Wad gathered since the young today don't collect like we so keenly did & the market is less in demand.

The unit price is slightly less here in France, about the same amount but in Euros, although there is no hazmat fee. Does the hazmat fee just apply to one box of primers, or can you order say a dozen tins with the 30 quid hazmat fee covering it all? As I frequently return to the UK to visit family and friends, maybe we could sort something out. PM me if interested. Regards the EU, IMHO Brexit was the most egregious example of national self - harm ever engaged in by a country in modern times. The public were gulled into it by very glib newspaper owners and posh politicians who stood to make a fat pile of cash out of it, and by a sorrowful pro-EU campaign which assumed the vote would go their way. The amount of British stuff we could get in our shops prior to 4 years ago was pretty comprehensive. We hardly get any now except at hugely inflated prices. Spread that across 20 - odd other European countries and that's a hell of a lot of British businesses who are no longer exporting stuff.

The OPs photos were of RWS caps from Germany, which is in the EU and the Eurozone. My point was that the Euro Economic Zone was sold as a organizational plan that was going to make life better for everyone, but most especially the "common man". For "elites approved" items that proved somewhat true, unfavorable items - not so much.

It could also be UK specific HAZMAT fees / regulations.

That is correct, especially if you have a couple of buddies or belong to a club that is willing to make a big order.

I was totaly against the Common market it was a sell out smack in the face of the colonies who gave their all in three wars only to be disadvantaged in favour of Europe mostly composed of old enimies and inefficient farmers By Ted Bloody Heath & his twenty pieces of silver Yought morning Cloud . Wellingtons" a whif of grapeshot" seem befitting it cost me & all brits our birthright disavantaged such as Aus & New Zealanders . I landed in Freemantle after overlanding to Ceylon in 1966 I had a whole three pounds to my name but it was just like walking from one English county to another . Now its all visa poop thanks to the Common bloody market .My Sister lives in Spain .The only Spain I knew was Franko's incidently the ovelanding though Asia was so common it was deemed "The milk run" no border asked for onward tickets or visas funds ect whitch was fine by me as I had just 16 pounds to go from Milan to Bombay . Today it a political mess same as the West Africa & travelled 8 mounths in 1965. Today you couldnt do that . Sad world .I wanted to go to a shoot in Alberta Ide been in the states but at Buffalo the Indian border ***** considered I hadnt enough money refused me might birth right Damn East Indian LET & Hinderance . I couldnt tell her Ide hitch up to Cartier & hop a CN so by days end with luck Ide be half way to Alberta .All the Canadian border seems stacked with negative border bods Its like they pick them from the most negative pratts they can find .wasnt that way when I lived in BC Western Canada.
