Bought a used 1803 Harper's Ferry .54 without any paperwork and I'm trying to find the recommended charge of 2F for target shooting. Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

No different than any other Muzzleloader. Start light and work up. 530 caliber roundball with pillow ticking, greased with your lube of choice. I use bear grease and beeswax, but there are lots of alternatives. I would start with about 50 grains and work up 5 grains at a time until you find a good accurate load. I hunt with 80 grains in my 54, and some guys I know go as low as 70, others 90-100. All depends on the gun.

I use 60gr 3f for25 and 50 yards, and 80gr 3f for 100yds in mine. The same amount of 2f wouldprolly work good too. I use a .530rb, patched with ticking.

I got it in 1991 from Dixie. Its a nice gun.
