new here....just got a 1842 pistol made in 1849 ... my question is it has a very weird auto feed for the cap .....any one know or have seen one???? will try to add photo later ..

Most likely a Maynard.

Those ‘42s are solid pistols. I slept with one as my nightstand gun for a while when it was all I had.

The Maynard was officially adopted and if it’s on a ‘42 it’s most likely that, but photos will tell us the real story.
