If you are carrying this for protection I would do away with the wads anyway. If left loaded for any length of time it will most likely contaminate your powder and cause malfunctions. Find a recipe for a thick lube that won’t melt in Warner weather and put it over the chamber after loading. You could get a bit more powder in the chamber without the wad plus you may find accuracy will increase without it. Not speaking from experience with wads, just what I have read in regards to wads and accuracy. So your gun is dependable and not dropping cap fragments into your action and jamming it up? If it’s not doing that then you are truly blessed!

Good ideas. No cap jams. Slixshots and Rem 11 caps. Also did some hammer face smoothing per Blackie on utube (helped a lot) i have occasional caps that stick to nipplesand need to be picked off, but no jams.
Yesterday my 51 .36, shot 100 rounds with 2 cap jams. Again, following Blackie’s hammer face advice. They didnt fall into hammer action but instead didnt fall off when cycled past the gate and jammed when got to the bottom.

the vast majority of original users carried them loaded and reloading was never a plan.....and here we are in the 2020s trying to target shoot and run numerous cylinders through a gun never designed for this...

I lifted this from another thread and truly believe this comment is more accurate than any pistol I own. I just know deep down I am trying to make little pistol into something it never was intended to be.
Tomorrow I will load up 15g T7. Put the target about 10’ from the range bench and give that card cheating crook a lesson in correcting the error of his ways. Can’t wait.
If I can put 3 shots in the vitals, quickly, no jams, I will be a very happy man.

I sent mine to Mike cuz it likley needs springs (not setting off caps reliably) and if its more accurate that will be cool! Just love it. Then I will have to decide if I am gonna send the 1849 asm or the 1851 pietta next??? I hate these hard decisions.

BTW Mike and I talked last nite and I have no issue waiting. I can say things with my two finger typing that can come off a bit differnetly than I meant. CS like Mike's is what we need to get back accross the USA. Aint nobody care or call ya back anymore. I learned in my business that when yer wayyyy behind ya GOTTA RETURN CALLS PROMPLY, more so than when yer all caught up. Even if you have nothing good to report, no progress, bad news or whatever. Make that call. People respond to response quite well! You get what you pay for both with yer mulha and yo patience. I got a line on the 5 years thing and it's not as it seems. I will say Mike has always called/texted or emailed me back promptly.

If you will be carrying a c-n-b revolver for protection why not get an 1862 Pocket model, police or navy? They're the same frame size, 36 caliber, hold almost as much powder as a full size Navy. Plus, you can get some pretty good flat point conical moulds for increased, effective, spank when they hit meat, and you can get a 3½" Trapper barrel from VTI Gun works and keep the original barrel for plinking or target work. Also, the trapper barrel doesn't have a loading assembly, gotta load it somehow. Like this:

Here's a good bullet for a 36, that big flat point should hit as hard as you can in 36 cal, and it's no longer than a ball. It would allow within a few grains of what you can use behind a ball. It's from Accurate Moulds.

That would go nice with my pocket police! If I was able to get out to shoot more I would probably start pouring lead.

I have the Lee mould, it fits my navy fantastic. One of these days I want to try it in my 62 Police, just for grins, but I suffer from that common shooter's affliction, lackoftimeosis.

Well, I sent him two colt revolvers, a 3rd model Dragoon and a Walker in November 2018 and he still has them. So it's going on 5 years now. I know his work is excellent so I assume he has a large backlog of work. I don't know what his current prices are.

Pro is more power and same cal as my 51 Navy, simplifies life.
Con is I dont like a fluted cylinder, and I must have octagon barrel, plus the engraved cylinder. Nothing against anyone taste, just not mine.

Went to range today, set splatter burst man size target at 30feet. Some observations.
1. remember mine is the 48 model, no lever. I don’t know if the 49 with lever has longer cylinder but some say they load 15g. Not happening in mine. 15g fills it right to top, no ball is going in after that.
2. 10g, ball, and wad at 30’ was spot on. Hit right around the red everytime. Took a couple head shots and heck yes he was toast.
3. Caps- Rem 11 and CCI 11, no jams, no misfires, popped off 5 quick perfectly. RWS, 1 misfire, 5 or 6 fell off into hammer action well. Will keep for the bigger pistols.
Summary- shot about 100 rounds was pleased, it functions in the parameters it was made for. Can’t ask for better than that. Its never going to win long range accuracy contest. Across a card table or defending a lady’s honor in a bar, Snidley Whiplash is a hurting pup.
i am satisfied.
Edit: looking at pictures I swear the 49 lever model has a longer cylinder than the 48 no lever. I swear. Dont have both to compare but I swear they different.

Just got back from range. Shot my 48 .31 pocket. Frustrating. 12x18 splatterburst target at 30’. Shot 25. Hit target 6. This thing is all over the place. High, low, left right. No consistency. Impossible to dial in because its not like i can compensate by adjusting one way or another. This thing is destined to be a display piece. Ive never had any pistol that is so all over the map. 10g T7, .320 ball.
I love it and hate it. Maybe should sell on GB and buy another. Like a problem child, some things cant ever behave.

1862 pocket Navy is what you're after. Ask and you shall receive. This is from Midway, but they can be had from other suppliers

Dont have one. If you mean the .320 ball, I have asked the guys at Track of Wolf about using .323 and they told me stick with .320. it outsells the .323 10 to 1.
