I just purchased a .44 1851 Navy Revolver (Pietta). I would like to know, is it possible to just change the barrel and cylinder to convert it to a .36 cal. I ask this because I wouldn't mind getting a .38 conversion for it. Trying for 2 guns in one here.:haha: Thanks in advance.

I don't think that will work. I'm not the expert but I own a 44 Pietta and have handled the 36's and I think the frame is smaller on the 36, which might make functioning a problem. The cylinder may not revolve correctly, etc. :m2c:

If I recall correctly, the cylinder on the 44 is rebated (turned down) and the frame has a step on it to match. I was looking for parts a while back and the answer from those in the know was a resounding NO, a 36 cannot swap to a 44 (except for grips and trigger tidbits...
