A few years back, I had a chain fire that loosened up the arbor a little on one of my 1860's. I am wondering how to tighten it back up? Can I unscrew it, and peen it some?
My new 1860 had a loose arbor from the factory, a common thing. I removed the pin that keeps them from turning then cleaned the threads and applied lock tight. Make sure you have it index correctly when you screw it in. Then make a new locking pin that is a tight fit and drive it in and grind flush.
Drill lock pin out.
Drill press best. Place the frame vertical with arbor between blocks resting on flat on the frame.
Helps to get a center punch mark on the pin.
Start undersize. Once enough of the pin is drilled it may come out on the bit.
When it's out tap the hole for a set screw. It will allow you to put a little pressure on the arbor once it's back in.
