took the new uberti 1860 to the range today and shot 3 cylinders through it. using no.11 caps, had 2 missfires on each cyl. shot about 18" high at 25 yards. not really dissapointed, pretty much what I expected. got home and cleaned it all up, took every part off except the arbor and loading lever, did a little stoning on the hammer to get the trigger pull a little better,(has a little creep in it) did a little filing on the hammer sight groove, actually filed the groove a little deeper, will have to file the top of the hammer off a bit yet to get the sights to line up. I had a set of treso nipples I also put in, the caps fit better on the treso nipples than the original nipples. I really like the colt design, but if I could have only one revolver, it would be my 1858 uberti navy. flinch

Huh only 3 shots? Were the misfires cause of oil?

It usually takes me a couple of trips to the range to site in a new pistol, or a long day of shooting!

I like the colt design for balance and they usually have nice enough triggers, but still my 1858 rem is still my favorite.

I ain't never held a pistol that feels as natural as an 1851 colt in .36 cal.fits me like a tailored glove

Use #10 caps with a revolver.

11 are too large and may be one of the causes of the chain fire.

I always pop 6 caps before loading to clear out the nipple of any goo/oil/obstruction.

I too love the feel of the 51/61 Navy.

Cheers,

David

I own both the 1860 Army and 1851 Navy. My favorite is the Army, but will be the first to admit the balance and grip of the Navy is most natural to the hand. Maybe this is why Colt continued with the Navy grip through the Peacemaker era?
