McMaster-Carr will have US made taps and you will pay US prices which will be helping the US economy 🙂 . If you are only going to use the tap for chasing out threads then a quality HSS import made tap will do - not one from Harbor Freight. Try <toolsavings.com>- they have the 6mm X .75 tap for $3.90 . This is an import item not USA made but I have used these taps and find that they are of quality. Some of the tools are made in India and Poland not always China. Here is the link < TAP MET SP M 6.0X0.75P (toolsavings.com) >.

I would recommend cleaning up the threads with a good tap, such as you can get from McMaster-Carr, or the toolsavings suggesting by zug, but if that doesn't work out, then try EMF for a cylinder.

They don't always show in stock, but they seem to deliver quickly anyway. Good prices there in any case.

It would be best to use a taper tap or second choice a plug tap. Easier to start them in a situation where you might find the first threads damaged from cross threading. A bottom tap would be the hardest to start correctly.

Ordered a tap from the toolsaver site. couldn't see spending a fortune on a small probably once use tool. Maybe if down the road someone needs the tap I can send it to him.

I'm on another board where if someone needs a tool someone will send the tool to him with the understanding that he'll return it or forward it to someone else who needs it. They pass around tools all the time.
