From day one, it was never what I would call "smooth" when operating the loading lever, especially without the white grease that Chuck Dixon sold me. The grease made the revolver "shootable".

Sounds like it already had problems before you got it.

Another difference between the Colt and Remington I see is the cylinder removal. On the Colt I have to push out a pin (which means I need to have another tool), but not so on the Remington. So that brings me to my next question:

How many shots can you fire before you disassemble to clean?

I know if I had more than one cylinder I would have to be pushing out the pin on the Colt every six shots, unless I just reloaded it. Thanks for your answers. This has been helpful for me.

I have fired 6-8 cylinders'(uberti) full before I notice that I have to do a bit of cleaning as the cylinder gets hard to turn. Of course I use 777 instead of the traditional BP. MY sons SS (Pieta) is about the same with the same powders we comparison tested them both.

The only revolver I have is the colt walker. I have only had it sense Christmas and I can already change the cylinder faster than my dad can on his rimington. It is true that you have to have a separate tool, but at the range it really doesn't matter. And if you carry it while out hunting, a tear down seems unlikely.

I bought a small rubber mallet. It leaves no marks on the gun and makes for very fast cylinder removal.

Just buy a second revolver for hunting! Balance, MAN, balance :rotf:

Seriously though, IF I was in the woods hunting with my Walker, I'd have my 3rd Model Dragoon on the other hip for that good-ol NEW YORK RELOAD :haha: :shocked2:
