First let me say thanks too Swampy and too TwoBellies for thier information on this project!
TB I never did get back to asking you about your secret too turning a bag. If it invloves a wooden spoon and a 3# dead blow hammer I got it figured out! If not maybe I've got new info too share. :rotf: :rotf:
Too all those who are always showing pics of your bags I must say, it's not as easy as your pics make it look!
This bag was sewen from 6oz. cowhide which made it a little tuff to turn, but has made a fine bag IMO! It is straight from the book Recreating the 18th Century Hunting Pouch by T.C. Albert.
This bag was sewn with linen thread as suggested by the book. I had origionally thought of using artifical sinew, which I have used in past leather projects. Swampy talked me out of that, by suggesting sinew will sometimes cut the leather!
This bag was lined with pillow ticking.
The beaver tail flap was dyed before I inserted the felt behind the Hunter Star I put on the front of it!
Here it is with some of the possibles a fellar might need!
I did take the liberty of making the horn straps where they were easy to attach to horn as my horn already has its on strap. I just cut slits in the strap where they could either be attach to horn directly or ran through existing stapels on horn.
I am glad that I listened to Swampy's advice and got at least one bag under my belt before I try to build the bag I rellly want to build.
I may put this one in the forum's classified or maybe put it on Ebay. Anyway I have learned alot from making this bag. Hope evryone likes how it turned out!
This last one is my better half with new bag, she didn't want her face in the pic!
She put one of my shirts on over her's just in case the dye had not dried completely and didn't want to get it on the white shirt she was wearing. The first thing she said when she saw the pic was, "my God your shirt makes me look huge"!
No way baby that bag doesn't make your butt look big, "I swear"! :rotf: :rotf:
After thirty years of marriage I think I finally the answer too that one figured out! :youcrazy: :rotf: :rotf:
Gotta laugh life is too short without it!
