Interesting. Brake cleaner takes the paint right off of cars...ask me how I know. So does carburetor cleaner (called throttle body cleaner now). I'm just surprised it did'nt damage the wood on your rifle.

Brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner will work fine to degrease and/or degunk a breech and bore. Just keep off stock finish.
I believe in swabbing between shots for conistency and safety. I dampen (DAMPEN not heavily wet) a flannel patch with spit for the swab.

Spit is great stuff for cleaning .....It's 99.5% water...And we all now how good water is at cleaning...
Spit also contains Enzymes for pre-digestion and lubricants to make things slide nicely.... what more could you ask for?.....
It's almost like we were meant to shoot muzzleloaders..... :haha:

I swab between shots because people more experienced than me once told me to.

I grip the ramrod by the sides to tap in a ball, rather than over the top.

I also alternate shooting between two different muzzleloaders to add in a redundancy to the lit ember fear, and because it is fun.

I've always thought we were.

Well, If powder and shot came out of one of the other orifices.....I'd be inclined to agree... :haha:
