Added a T/C Newenglander 12gauge to the arsenal for This year. And my 32's will get some time in the woods too.
I have considered putting a 12 gauge barrel on my New Englander (if I could even find one) but after hunting squirrels with a .32 RB, I just do not think I could bring myself to use anything else. But that's just me. Everybody to their own thang.

I have a New Englander 12 gauge and love it. Barrels do turn up from time to time so, if you get one, I'm sure you will be happy with it. Weighs next to nothing making it easy to carry all day. Mine is cylinder bore but throws a fine and lethal pattern.

September 1 here in Ohio. Coming fast. Will probably use my little 24 gauge flint fowler unless I can get the big ugly African trade gun firing consistently. Lost my best private land spot (another guy got dibs) so I’ll be in the state forest more

Last squirrel, last day of last season

We are now down to 14 days remaining and I blew out my knee yesterday. I have invented more of those colorful metaphor's today than in my entire life. Dang it all anyway.

I'll be out there opening morning (unless its raining) even if I have to drag myself out and just sit against a tree.

Man, I’m so sorry to hear that!! I hope it heals up quick and isn’t permanent damage.

May recovery find you quickly.

Thanks, Jim, but the damage is already there. Been dealing with it for over a year. Steroid injections proved to be band aids. 3-4 weeks maximum duration. Can only get one every 3 months and surgery cannot be done for 3 months after receiving a steroid injection.

Last spring MRI results reads 70% of the cartilage is gone. I'm sure its gotten worse since the MRI was done. Trying to get something done with the medical community and insurance companies nowadays is joke. After a few months I finally got in to see a surgeon that actually cares and that I can hopefully trust but have to wait again until next visit. Suppose to have a gel injection that might be another temporary fix but that too, is proving to be a goat rope and a long time in the making.

Hoping the recommended gel injection (if I ever get one) will get me going and last until after the first of the year. Fall is always my busiest time of the year and Heaven forbid I miss out on hunting season.

I live to hunt and since I have gotten my Crockett Squirrel rifle, squirrel hunting is now my favorite thing to do. And now that I have my .54 GPR dialed in, my want bumps are itching really bad to bag a deer with it this fall as well.

Thanks. I'll be okay. like the old saying goes...........growing old ain't for sissies. If I can get just a little relief and get by until after hunting season then I will happy. Surgeon can go in and do whatever has to be done after that. Time will tell I reckon.

Yesterday I had my wife bring home some Jim Beam. Drank a few shots of that and took a muscle relaxer. Finally was able to get comfortable enough to get some sleep.

Mr. Beam has helped me out a few times in life, even when I didn't need it. :)

Oh wow. Henry is one cool looking dog. About the last type of dog I would have thought would tree squirrels.
Good morning, Ed.
Henry's, future was not good.
We stepped in to help and find him a home. Not a breed I wanted, especially a " Designer Breed " in my mind I'm thinking What? is that?
Ear Mites real bad, not house broken, not training at all.
With in 2 weeks wife had him house broke, I had him follow basic commands.
Teeing Squirrels like crazy. Every time I would check, there would be a Squirrel or Squirrels in the tree.
Told me wife that I wanted to keep him, he was now,
My Squirrel Hunting Slough Dog
Again best to ya.

Good for you! He looks like a Henry. I’d love to have a dog like that.

Ed find you a hickory they be cutting & wait on them to give you some decent shots. Hope you can deal with knee until you get it fixed.
Indeed. Lots of hickory and walnut trees where I hunt. Even if I have to ride up there on my 4-wheeler and sit next to a tree, I be out there.

Hope to get some answers tomorrow about me knee.

I use to squirrel hunt a lot when I was younger. It kind of fell to the way side as I got older. This year I'm hell bent on making a return to it. I actually just built a 32 crockett from a kit. It's been done for a little over a week and I've already shot 30 + rounds through it. (That a lot for me) my hawken is 4 years old and I bet it doesn't have that many. I can wait to take it out for squirrel this year.

Let us know how it turns out. Plenty of us love to hear about squirrel hunting adventures.

I should just sit on my front deck and shoot them and rabbit. I would limit out on both a few times. Especially rabbit. At anytime I can see 8-10 rabbit. Our population exploded in the last year. We had a bunch of cats around but someone (not me) has been removing them so the rabbits have returned.

We had the same cat problem here. Yard used to be full of rabbits and now we hardly ever see one. Good news though, the cats seem to have magically disappeared. I wonder where they went... Maybe the rabbits will make a comeback but at least the squirrels are pretty thick around here.
