Percussion caps are a small but dedicated market. I have
noticed that the "ESG" score of manufacturers who produce
anything consumer firearm related is lower than other small
manufacturers. Blackrock is a major proponent of ESG ratings
for lending/capital decisions. Could ESG be involved? Or are
we just caught in a small shrinking market?

I watched that video, and i disagree with one thing he said. Ethan said if you were in Walmart and saw some caps, to just buy a few tins, and leave the rest for some other fellas. Well, that is a nice gesture, and it is exactly what I did last fall. I got plenty of caps, so I just got 3 tins for $5.62, leaving 17 on the hook. Not 30 secinds later, a low grade poltroon that I recognize from his table at the local gun shows, swoops in and takes all the remaining caps. Saw him in December selling those caps for $35 per 100. I should have bought them all and gave them away, and that is exactly what i will do next time. Buy caps when you can, and pass them out to your muzzleloading friends. If you don't, those scurvy buzzards are surely going to, and they will sell them for 700% mark-up.

Once I saw Walmart had some for $5.99 I promptly purchased all on the shelf. Then I proceed to make a "loop" to every Walmart in my local area and did the same thing. At some Walmarts they were in random spots in the sporting goods area. Some were with pellet guns, some with the propane and some with muzzleloading supplies. I work hard for my money, and I'll be damned if I find a deal in this economy and am able to saved some money, I'm not
Passing that up for the "next guy" who doesn't know I even exist, or these caps for that matter. If someone wants to be upset, be upset with Walmart for not
Reordering more with all their buying power. They got one shipment of 10 tins in for the whole year per Walmart in my area best I can tell. I will do the same thing this year, LORD WILLING and now I have a better idea

Unfortunately, due to several factors, cap finding has turned into a dog eat dog situation. I was able to find caps last fall at two different locations. A small sporting goods store and Walmart. I got what I needed and left a few for others. But obviously, some folks don’t see it that way.

Therefore, I plan on getting a cap making kit and getting after it. Might take a while to perfect it, but at least I’ll be trying.

I figure that with the caps I already have, I can use those for hunting and sight in, then use the homemade caps after cleaning, I should have enough to do me for a minute.

However, I’ll always be on the lookout for caps.

Better yet, keep your caps in reserve and get a flintlock.

I did the exact same thing as you last year at the local Walmart. Remember to start checking around the end of July or early August.

When I was a kid in the Fiftie's caps were more "hot" than today, I'd wager. Similar to the watered-down Strike Anywhere matches which are pretty wimpy.

Don’t remember exactly, but the good, strike anywhere matches we grew up with were quietly done away with at least 10 years ago, maybe longer.

When to start looking.

This is a follow up to my earlier post in this thread on my adventure in cap buying and ‘selling’. Basic summary is that I purchased all of a local WallyWorld’s percussion caps (1000 caps) when by pure **** luck I got ahead of a local ‘reseller’.

The update. Recently went to a local gun show with a group at club I belong to. And just as an FYI, most every gunshow with a100 mile plus radius is the same group of trinket and Slim Jim sellers. Back to the adventure. Took a sleeve of RWS caps (2500) and 10 tins of CCIs (1000) with me. The previously mentioned ‘reseller’ had caps at $40 per 100 on his table, but appeared to be ready to ‘deal’. Short story, asked what he would pay for 3500 caps. Without hesitation he offered $0.05 per cap. $175 for the 3500 caps I had with me. I countered with $1000, and he said I was crazy, raising his offer to $200. Said he needed room to make a profit. Heard his female troll (assumption on my part with the gender) say under her breath ‘we can’t sell the ones we have now’. I made sure he knew I had the caps and moved on.

Unfortunately, what @PastorBobserved is likely very common to occur. Took grief here for previously posting what is below, but I beat a known local WallyWorld Scalper (he has actually told the clerks what he was doing) to 10 packs of CCI caps last summer. Confirmed later at a local gun show the guy was stocked up and selling caps and other WallyWorld items at 5x or greater the WallyWorld price.

Previously posted. This past July a guy in front of me at the WallyWorld sporting goods counter said he wanted all the caps that were available and they rang him up. Then my old friend karma showed up. The customer’s plastic didn’t work for some reason. Told the clerk he had to go find his wife and get the checkbook. The clerk then asked what I wanted and I pointed at the caps, and she said how many? I asked about the previous customer, and she told me he buys stuff all the time to sell at gun shows and not to worry. I felt a little guilty as I paid for all ten packs, but that went away as I was leaving the counter and saw the other customer headed back with his checkbook in hand. I didn’t really need caps that day, but that’s 10 packs some scalper will not be selling. And they won’t go to waste.

It’s just easier to give someone a tin of caps when they need them and tell them not to worry about paying me when I have less than $6 into replacements instead of $35 or so. Doesn’t change my appreciation of the thank you I get. And when it involves getting a kid shooting it really feels good.

And have even seen cap gun caps disappear out of the local dollar stores for about the last seven or eight years.

So out of curiosity I went to Amazon to see if they sell them and if they have hazmat shipping. I could not find any on Amazon but they do have matches which I believe they ship with no hazmat but of course no strike anywhere.

If you really really need priming compound you can sand off the striker pad and mix some of that with powdered match heads. Corrosive as hell of course. I used to take a pinch of that and gently squeeze it shut in a piece of split shot to make interesting slingshot bullets to shoot at the wall that go pop.

I did however find a bunch of adhesive Matt striking pads for sale in bulk on Amazon..... Should anyone need a bunch of that material

I have no idea when I bought them -- maybe 7 -10 years ago -- and so I am thanking myself for having them. I also found a box of Graf's BP, looks like 4lbs, mix of 3F and 2F. I didn't open that one as right now it's sealed real well, and I have other BP I can use.

I really need to do a better job of tracking my inventory.

There has always been scalping of products during shortages. But there's nothing wrong, and everything Right, about being a good person.
A few years ago, I found an outstanding deal online for caps. I called my BP friends, they wanted in.
I ordered several thousand caps, kept some, sold the rest for cost, to friends.

I'm sure Most of us here have friends. Think of them when your find a great deal.
