This is my second attempt at making a powder horn. I gave it to my dad(slug gunner) as a christmas present. I find it sad that he has had it a whole month and still hasn't even used it.

:hatsoff: Nice! I like your scrimshaw; your dad should be proud.

Nice horn Mike! ...Your dad has only had it since Christmas?....Heck!..If he lives in the same state as you do, he's probably like me and old bones like to sometimes wait to warmer days before venturing out in the cold!

Thank you for the encouragement. Does anyone have any constructive critisism for me?

That is a very nice horn. I would have no criticism for you, but rather a suggestion. Visit a lot of internet sites and start saving pictures of horns you like, horns of different periods, pictures showing details of throats, butts, shapes, carving, scrimshaw, etc. Good for you. Keep on makinghorns. Wonky

No.4 Shot The horn looks real nice in my living room  until the weather gets nice. Then you bet it will be filled with 3fff and headed for the range. Just so all of you horn builders know there was no horn builders at the Shot Show. Someone may check into this for 2009.

Just a few years ago. It cost about $1500.00 and up, just to have a booth at the Shot Show. Not to mention travel and lodging expense. To steep for this 'Ol Horner!...But thanks for the information!

I agree with the cost and with the travel,But it would be nice to see ture craftmenship at any show. After getting back from the Shot Show I went to the Michgan Antique Arms Collector Show and there was only one person there that made horns and selling them. This is the point I'm trying to make we need to show our craftmenship and inform people of our hobby. Heck there was no gun builders there not one so here is the score HORN BUILDERS 1 gun builders 0 Lets hear it for the horn builders!!!!!!

I got a really good laugh out of your repeated phrase Honest...what you smell is black powder"
I've cleaned a lot of black powder guns, and I've also been asked politely by my wife to leave an area when cleaning a BP gun. Enjoy looking at the pictures of the powder horns. That's my next project, but I have to finish my flintlock first.
