I fully agree, but I guess I have to be considered a pro, although I am not always so sure myself. I do know that where ever it is that I am, came from studying the works of others better than me. And I still do. I study the high points, and especially what I consider the mistakes. Which often is a matter of taste, or correctness, in either case. Lonehunter got fired up after seeing my work, and it was convieniant for him for him to get some hands on instruction, which he has done very well with. Seeing others work, whether that of an amatuer or a pro, can be extremely helpful if one has an interest in pursuing a similar craft. Carl Davis is but a little man, in a large world, with a good deal of envy and jealously for anyone whom he believes threatens his imagined state of granduer. I believe he is a textbook anal paranoid with illusions of granduer. Although I am often not strong enough to completely ignore him myself, that is the real solution to the assaults by Snarl Davis. That or expulsion, or reprimand by the high authority of this board. I myself have been reprimanded, and do my best to play by the rules, but the tolerances given to this person, Carl Davis, sometimes simply overwhelm me. I know of no one else on this forum that causes such disruption, and ill feelings, and offers little but criticism to others on this board, and yet, it continues on, and on.

no,no,Carl owes me NOTHING! :shake:
I make knives because i like to! If he has a problem with that, its his problem. I feel complimented that my knives look good enough that he thinks i am a vender! :hmm: Maybe its time!

I'd be proud to own any of the knives you've presented in this thread. That said, the longer you can continue to pursue this learning experience, the higher your artform will develope. Don't make the jump to soon...

On another note... I've got a lot of respect for Wick, and have to agree with much of what he stated. It would be nice to have this sub-forum's good folks, no longer being subjected such disruption.

It simply makes no sense for one individual to derail some wonderful threads. This particular thread, he overstepped his bounds.... basically leveling accusations that were unwarranted, regarding the original post.

He continually amazes by being off-point, off-subject, and off-putting....by being deconstructive. It gets old...and tired.

MIGHTY fine French-pattern trade knives. I make a similar knife from automotive coil spring.

Are your handles maple?

Keep posting!

Grant

Yes, maple slabs and iron pins.
We would like to see pictures of some of your knives also :v

well, at the risk ... i like the knives and even if it is advertising (although i believe that it is not, inasmuch as there is no invitation to purchase) i can plonk down my hard earned, over taxed, God entrusted dollars if i want or, in the alternative, just look at the really great looking knives.

keep up posting the pix- i, for one, really like 'em and i don't care if it's "advertising" or not!

These knives are beautifully proportioned and the workmanship is top shelf and the fact that they were created out of love for your sons makes them very special indeed.
As for the sour grapes comments, I pretty much agree with Mr. Ellerbe but he was being way to polite as gentlemen usually are.
To Carl, As my Pop used to say "Some dogs just gotta bark"
All the best, Bob

I also hope you keep posting the pictures. I love getting to see other peoples work and in my neck of the woods the Internet offers me one of the few opportunities to do so. As for the advertising, I love to look at sites like TOW even though I rarely purchase anything from there, window shopping at its best I guess. Keep up the great work.

What is your blade material? Drill rod, flat stock? Type?

Also, did you use aqua fortis to stain the handles, or something else?

I use cocobolo because I sell many of my FPTKs to cooks, and the resinous cocobolo holds up well in moist work spaces. I use auto coil, which is typically 5160 and I temper for toughness. I grind in a distinctive taper and leave a stiff spine, which is good for jointing. :hatsoff:

I dunno about that. We get to see darned near every new gun a builder makes here on the site. I'd say it just takes longer to build the guns, so knives show up quicker.
And their rationale is, as long as they don't say "for sale", it's not advertising, even though everyone knows they're in business. That's BS and they know it. Especially the guys who post the 'beauty shots' from their web sites. People just don't want to call it what it is.
carl you are entitled to your opinion but if a post offends you so much why do you read it maybe everyone is tired of all the whinnin

We never get tired of looking at good work, but at what point do you think this should be considered ADVERTISING! If Ford posted a photo of every new car they made, wouldn't you think that violated the "no advertising" rules? :shake:

Nope, Without posting prices,Just be pictures of Fords. I see alot of grandmothers and mothers showing pics of the kids they made. I don't think any of them are for sale.

Lh ,keep them coming!!!
