I have a rifle in .36 cal. that has a bent barrel and am planning on replaceing it with a .32 cal. but have been told that .32s arent known as real tack drivers and foul alot .What say ye?

My .32 GM barrel shoots inside 1/2" at 25 yds with no wiping between shots.

All I've known shot real well. All the complaints about fouling I've looked into turned out to be problems with the shooter's choice of lube and patch thickness relative to ball dia.

Get those right, and fouling is not an issue. I swab the bore on my 32 cal every 10 shots- same for my 30 cal and my 36 cal.

Nothing wrong with a .32. I've got 2 of them. That being said, if I had a .36 that needed to be replace, and I already had .36 "stuff" I'd get another .36. :2

I have a Green Mountain replacement barrel that shoots great. I can usually get 15 to 20 shots before wiping and maintain small game accuracy. But after owning both 32's and 36's I think that the 36 is just a bit more user friendly and the difference on small game is not noticeable. If I already had 36 molds and stuff I would stick with it. But if you really want a 32 go for it and don't look back. They are both a lot of fun!

Can't the bent barrel be straightened?

32 is fine BTW. Like them all the shooter has to do his homework to get the best result.

I currently have a .32 and a .36, both flinters. I had another .32 before that I wish I'd never sold. The .32's are my favorite squirrel rifles, very accurate and no problems with fowling.

I own both a .32 and a .36. They are both super accurate and do not foul any more than my .54. Either will give you great service.

This old myth just keeps getting repeated. I love my 32 flinter, and I wouldn't if it fouled. Get one you will love them too, but I would first get the 36 barrel straightened by someone who knows what they are doing and buy a second gun in 32.

Old Pard, bent barrels are great for shoot'n them squirrels on the back side of trees...I like the .36 cal because it would match my .36 cal navy revolver...good luck with whatever you decide, hope it gives ye one holers! :v

A 36 C&B revolver is actually a 38 using a .375 ball. The 31s are .32 and the 44s are 45 caliber.

I've had .32 caliber and .36 caliber flintlocks.

My .32 I have now will shoot 3/4" groups at 50 yards. The .36 I had ( was stupid and sold it ) shot pretty much the same at 50 yards. Shooting 30 grains of FFFG I don't get much fowling, I swap out the barrel around every 10 shots, more out of habit than need.

That's about what I've come to accept as the accuracy level of both my .32 and .36. Why the fouling myth started is something I can't understand.

I was out shooting a .32 yesterday. at about 30 yards I get a ragged hole, and Im pretty sure I get More fouling from the caps than I get in the barrel. It took me a few trips to figure out the loads/ball/patch combo, and im still fine tuning, But 22-1/2 grns 3f graf powder, .315 ball and .010 patch can outshoot what I can see through open sights. great fun and very cheap at the range!
