I finished a 32 kit alittle over a month ago.
Had fun learned alot.
Oh can't forget squirells and rabbits don't like it. :hmm:

The little Crockett is a tack driver and easy to care for. They don't look half bad, either. I like the way mine feels and shoulders. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about it considering it's a factory gun.

Mine likes 30grns Goex 3F, .311" Lee mold cast lead ball and .020" ticking patch lubed with Hoppes. I have to admit, however, it does well with about any charge that goes down the barrel. Forget the myth of small bores fouling badly; they don't. Just use the right lube and patch and you can shoot all afternoon without wiping. Congratulations on getting a fine small game rifle.

One of my favorite rifles!
Mine thrives on a steady diet of 12gn of FFFG, a .310 ball & .018 ticking patch.
Everything Hanshi says is true. Powder charge really doesn't seem to matter too much to these little skwerl guns. I can shoot anything from 8gn upto 35gn & my groups stay near enough the same at 30yds Only the vertical point of impact seems to change. Patch & ball combo seems pretty adaptable too. I've shot .010, .015 & .018 & again, all seem accurate as each other at 30yds. I'm sure at longer range this would change, but at average squirrel distance it seems not to matter.
Again, as Hanshi mentions, I can shoot plenty before needing to wipe. Fouling is no worse than any of my bigger bore rifles. With a fairly damp patch, I can easily get 15 or 20 shots before I need to wipe.
It's a real pleasure to carry through the woods, popping away at targets of chance (I LOVE 'litter hunts' at this time of year) See & soda can, 'kill' it & then take it home. Good fun & good for the environment too! Fantastic way to spend time with a bunch of good friends too! :D

Beats the hell out of socks, jeans and underwear ! I envy guys who get stuff like you got for Christmas. My best friend's wife, one Christmas got him an original 12 ga single shot muzzleloading shotgun. That was neat.
Back to the rifle. I have lots of guns. Lots. But back in Sept. a friend asked me to take down to Friendship and sell for him and unfired Crockett in .32. He wanted $200. I sold it very quick but looking back on it I should have bought it. Pretty well built little guns.

I got a new refrigerator :idunno: Sure would've liked a squirrel gun though. I guess I'm just one step up from the lump of coal on Santa's list.

I just got my Crockett in the mail today.I also got a custom 20 banger buckshot mold that throws .310 balls.I will be off to the range and see how it does.I got it for the digger squirrels by my cabin that try to undermine it.Shots are 15-30 yards so it should do the trick.Previously it was 3-4g of bulleye in an 8mm Mauser with an 8mm Nambu(or 310 cadet) cast bullet.
I shot 20g of FFF in the orchard by the house this PM and was surprised how noisy it was.

Brother you have been in the sun too long. Just think, you could have had a nice rifle for $200.00 and saved the gas money for powder. :youcrazy:

:rotf: :shake:

You are going to have a ton of fun lol. I put mine together in aug of 2010 and didn't get to much use out of it til this last season. It's my new favorite replaced my .22 that i had used since i was a kid. I started out with 30 gr of triple 7 and have paired it back to 15 gr just because the shots I get doesnt seem to make a difference accuracy or impact at the range out to about 30-35 yds. Make sure you practice aim small miss small since so far every head shot I've gotten removes the head completely even on rabbits, I'm using .310 round ball on top of ticking don't know the thickness just stuff left over from the lining of a vest I made. I probably won't go back to 30 gr until my shots get longer or I sstart jumping fox or coyotes on a reg basis.

I'm loving mine ! I picked it up used, and was already "brass tacked".. I'm still working up a good load for it, but at 50 yds it's about 2" low, with 20 grns of 3F powder.. The groupings are pretty tight even for my tired old eyes, with using iron sights..

Enjoy your new toy !! You'll be hooked in no time at all... :haha: :hatsoff:

mold is and ebay item from sharpshooter. The balls vary a bit from .309 to about .312 so its not perfect.I shot them today with .019 denim patch at 25 yards with 15g of FFF and it shot a bit over 1".This was first time out with the rifle. It was my first time with a muzzle loader smaller than .45. I must say the small size of the patches and balls make it not as enjoyable as i had thought for offhand work.Maybe a 40 would be mo-betta squirrel getta'.

after further testing the .310 mold only averages 2" at 25 yards. Not good but can plinking accuracy i guess. But with 20 per each mold fill up you can make a bunch in a hurry.

Just took mine out for the second time today at the start of our clubs winter league.I had shot it at the range last summer and got a great group and got home adjusted the sights and put it back in the rack till today. With never shooting it since I moved the sights I hit 8 out of ten targets,Then remembered it had a set trigger (Been shootin muskets too long) :shake: Great gun
