.36 cal SMR in Walnut completed

Not fired my .36 double in anger yet so wonder what you were thinking. I don’t have a round ball load for it , I found Sierra pistol bullets very good, but am considering buying a .338 Lee bullet mould and paper patching it , almost perfect , it’s all brain enjoyment as I cannot get a police permit to even shoot on a range, France is ok as no licence needed for BP guns, I live in hope. Ferry to France 40 mins and £225 in my old Motorhome,

Hello nice to hear from you. Just double checked it Enfield cut rifling 1/32” twist quite nice. Too fast for balls unless they are very tight , I just cannot find any information on the rifle ( 1885 maybe as late as 1920)’it’s very well made and cost me £2200 , I bid £1600 and forgot about tax and 28% buyers premium ha ha I just had to have it and the auctioneer was just bidding me up to £1600 for which it was valued, £800 to £1600’ I made several bullet moulds but I think they were too long at 1”. Over the 4 years I have had it I came to the conclusion that Sierra 175 gr jacketed pistol were best , actually perfect, slightly sized down. More recently experimented with .308’jacketed paper patched bullets, only last week experimenting , I thought I would get a Lee .338 mould and paper patch. , out of stock Henry Krank uk I did get some .36 sabots from USA but really for pistol

I bought it in mind for hog shooting in France , 40 min and £199 on ferry . I chatted with out man in Calais France , no regulations buying BP guns. But you have to have a reason to carry , going on a hunt , etc is ok , but I cannot carry it in my motorhome just in the hope of shooting, So seems I need an elusive permit to carry , but that covers modern guns etc. then I need a hunting permit for BP. I kind of gave up . Substitute powders banned in France Seems French police are not bothered about BP guns, well it’s France . Having said that , I never saw any wild deer or hogs in thousands of miles Gunny life is very complicated in France , love the country.

Terminei de montar meu Kibler SMR hoje. Nada fora do comum, apenas os extras eram um bom polimento interno e externo, uma biqueira, algumas linhas incisas no apoio da bochecha e alguns adornos de covinhas no focinho. E também esfreguei bem o furo com pasta JB, brilho e scotchbrite verde. Eu também poli a ponta do mínimo na coroa. Esperançosamente, a limpeza do furo ajudará no arrombamento do cano e aliviará um pouco a sujeira. Mira frontal Kibler padrão e mira traseira mais alta da Pista do Lobo. Nenhuma mancha no material, ele foi lixado, depois 2 camadas de selador / enchimento BC e, em seguida, 2 camadas esfregadas à mão da minha mistura de verniz de óleo / goma de terebintina T&T. Usei Jax Black em todo o metal, só optei por um acabamento bem mais escuro do que fiz no passado. Aqui estão algumas fotos externas e internas

Finished up assembling my Kibler SMR today. Nothing out of the ordinary, only extras were a good internal & external lock polish, a toe plate, a couple of incised lines on the cheek rest, and some dimple adornment on the muzzle. And I also gave the bore a good scrub with JB bore paste, bore shine and green scotchbrite. I little finger tip polish on the crown too. Hopefully the bore scrub will aid in the barrel break in and ease the fouling a little. Standard Kibler front sight and a taller rear sight from Track of the Wolf. No stain on the stock, it was sanded, then 2 coats of BC sealer/filler, then 2 hand rubbed coats of my T&T oil varnish/gum turpentine mix. I used Jax Black on all the metal, just went for a much darker finish that what I’ve done in the past. Here’s some outside and inside photos.

Beautiful weapon! Congratulations! Curious to see how it shoots! Who knows, if you fall in love with it, you might start adorning it with silver thread inlays? It's a job I've never done, but it's a work of art!

But the passion for ancient weapons and black powder is great too! Don't give up, your weapon is very beautiful. You said the twist is 1/32 and I think that's too slow for these long bullets. 1/32 if the rifling is deep, you will be able to use balls, as long as you use weak charges, for target shooting. If the rifling is shallow, I think your best choice is paper patches. If you don't find BP there... make your own!

Nice to hear from people around the world , it’s a super forum. To buy or keep BP you need a police explosive licence in uk. They won’t give me one now, And if you just have the chemicals and there is the slightest suggestion you might be making BP you are likely to go to prison for 3 years

Pyrodex and others were recently upgraded to explosives ,

The only way is to make nitro for black , all these including pyrodex and 777 were over the counter no permit needed, But now no police permit no powder.

I shoot pcp 12 ft lb airguns , ok for squirrels to 50 yards , and I shoot an ionx bow, but you cannot hunt with a bow in uk. I’ll take up knitting I think. Had shotguns all my life , police took them away .
