I just bought a stock for my uberti third model dragoon. They havn't been made for many years..I got frustrated trying to find one ..finally found one with steel hardware to match my uberti that had a steel backstrap/ brass trigger guard. The going price on these stocks if one can be found was around $500.00 for the type with steel fittings. Don't ask what I paid for mine..I think I was the victim of shill bidding on ebay..reported the seller to ebay and noticed after the auction ended that he was no longer a registered ebayer so maybe justice was served. All the same ..I now have a stock. Brass fitted stocks will run less I think.

without looking to make sure, I seem to remember the brass army/navy stocks at Dixie were about $150. You didnt do to bad considering the rarity of your find.

Should have filled those cans with water...much more showey! Even better is old pop found in an old shed after sitting through the summer heat in Texas!! Shake it up and fire away!! Boom! Foosh!! :rotf:

I sold my dragoon shoulder stock a few years ago. Fired two shots from the prone but could not force myself to do it a third time. The cylander gap has a tremendous flash w a heavy charge of powder, and your face is not very far away. Of course neither is the muzzle for that matter. Watch your top knot,Jaeger out.

Great question. I have to agree with those who sent in their answers. These early cap and ball pistols are much more powerful than paper figures describe. Wild Bill's famous shootout proves this. With his 1851 36 cal colt Navy, he shot his aggressor at 75 yards and with only one shot. There are other stories showing that cap and ball pistols can be a deadly tool. In this day of modern ballistics and smokeless powder, I would never feel undergunned if I was using a cap and ball pistol to protect myself.
