Sean, That may be part of the problem (Don't ask!). Also, for range work, I think I'd try a different patch lube mixture, e.g., just enough Murphy's + water to make it slippery. If you've got Ballistol and can tolerate its odor, 1 part Ballistol : 6 (or 7) parts water works wonderfully. For hunting, especially in colder weather, try brewing a batch of Stumpy's "Moose Snot."
Btw, if your rifle doesn't group more tightly with the .530" balls, you may want to experiment with .535" dis. RB's and maybe a .018" (compressed) patch.
