4-H Muzzleloading Clubs - What is involved?

Hey All, Just wondering - I've seen a couple of you write back to me on a previous post about you doing the 4-H Muzzleloading club thing. My brother in-law and myself were just wondering as we have 3 youngsters of our own plus maybe others in our 4-H Rabbit Club that might be interested. I've looked on the Ohio 4-H home site and seen about the training for the advisors. Do any of you know what is involved with the training. I don't know if we would do it this year or not, but some info from someone already doing it would be a good thing.

Hi grumpy bear, how are you? In regards to your question concerning the 4H, they teach the kids the basics in firearms safety as well as marksmanship skills with front stuffers. The Instructors by the way are well screened and have to go through an intensive 3 day course. It's a real good program. I highly recommend it!

Hey Flyboy and Sduve, :hatsoff: thanks for writing back. I guess my question is have any of you guys actually done the advisor training, and what is involved. There are none of these clubs in my area (that I've tracked down so far). I've looked at the 4h site and the info is pretty sparce other than dates that it is available. Three days to do the course would probably be a problem.

Hello again grumpy bear, I'm in the process myself of getting a slot for one of the 4H muzzleoder Instructor classes myself. The problem is that there are only so many slots available and so few classes taught each year that I've been having a hard time getting scheduled due to my work schedule. In NY state the Instructors class is 3 days long. Another option for you would be to check out some local sportsmans clubs. Besides being a Hunter Safety Instructor for the disfunctional State of New York I also help instruct youngsters in a youth rifle program at my local Sportsmans club.
